You think the Rainbow Room is worth a visit?

After watching the movie Sleepless in Seattle I am tempted to make a visit. And I just realized it's in the same building as on Top of the rocks in Rockefeller Center?!? Would you recommend dinner or just a drink and take in the spectacular views? Dinner might not fit into my budget

I would reco a drink only since the food is not supposed to be very good, esp given the price. Definitely a place for the more mature crowd.

I cannot recommend dinner at the Rainbow Room, especially if you are traveling alone. But you could have a really expensive drink at Bar Sixty-Five. If you're willing to spend $20 or $25 for a single drink, go for it. There's a minimum, but I don't know what it is.

It is an iconic space. We went there (way back) and the memory remains though I've been to hundreds of other "rooms" since--most of which I don't remember.

Also consider the revolving restaurant atop Marriott Marquis in Times Square. Problem is, with all the new construction, views are obscured here and there!

Ok. Maybe a drink then:) I will check out the place you recommended at Times Square for sure! Any other iconic typical NY lounge kind of fun places for two ladies in the late 40's to vist?

Sorry, but I can't imagine any justification for going to the top of the Marriott Marquis. Not for about the last 20 years.

The rooftop of the Hyatt Times Square would be a much better choice.

What kind of music do you like? Jazz? Cabaret?

You can hear live jazz for free at 7pm on Monday nights at the Monday Night Jam at the Union Hall of local 802 of the musicians union at 322 West 48th Street.

For clubs, look at: The Blue Note, The Metropolitan Room (Annie Ross is there Tuesdays) Birdland, Smalls....for starters. These are each patronized by locals, as well as tourists.

What if somebody you are extremely eager to know wants to meet you there and at no other place?
