You have 3 weeks to explore Australia in September/October. What is your dream trip?

This is what we are trying to plan from a blank piece of paper and I thought I would ask fodorites what their own dream 3 week schedule would be for that time of year. You have up to 200 US dollars/250 Australian dollars per night to spend on accommodation.

Our objective is to feel we have experienced the "true heart of Australia". Our own likes and interests are specatacular scenery (and photography), wildlife, exploring quaint towns and also experiencing life in the larger cities (not to mention good wine!)so very much all rounders. Happy to self drive in parts and aiming to make it a reasonably relaxing trip rather than trying to do too much and seeing very little!

I look forward to reading the postings.

Many thanks

My favorite city in Australia was Melbourne and my favorite area was Tasmania. Be sure and post this query on the Australia forum, there are several Aussies who post there regularly. Have a great trip!

pituxa-
This is your very first post here. Do you have a particular reason for asking this question? Are you personally going on this trip?

When we took an extended trip to Australia, we asked advice from the fodorites on the Austalia board and got many extensive and informative answers. I would suggest posting this same question on their board.

I did also post on Australia board but was interested to hear from US "fodorites" who had visited and toured Australia.

To answer Orlando_Vic yes I am planning to go to Australia in 2008 and am having difficulty in deciding on a schedule.

Many thanks
