Yosemite in late March?

My boyfriend and I are doing a CA road trip in late March- we'd like to stop at Yosemite for a few days. What kind of weather can we expect? Will there be snow in the valley? Are there still things to do, or is everything shut down? Should we scrap it and go to Tahoe instead? Any info would be appreciated!

Check this URL:

www.wrh.noaa.gov/hanford/climo/coop/ynphdqtr.htm

for 35 years of weather AVERAGES for Yosemite, by month. It will show that March has quite variable weather: you could be comfortable or under half a meter of snow. However, the Valley itself (one of the most beautiful spots anywhere in the US) is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You should be able to find SOME place to stay if you start phoning now.

Bad weather is just as likely to hit Tahoe as it is to hit Yosemite, and the Valley beats Tahoe by a light year in terms of beauty.

The Number to check Yosemite is (209)372-0200. They can tell you not only about accoms but about recent road cdns like rockslides on 140. We sometimes stay in nearby towns (Mariposa, Lee Vining, Sonora)for something different when visiting YNP.

As has been said, March can be *quite* variable. I stayed there in mid-March once. It was well below freezing at night, but in the afternoons we were hiking in t-shirts. There was snow on the ground in the shadier parts of the valley, and of course, in the higher elevations. The waterfalls were great -- some had ice, and others were in full rush. A number of the valley campgrounds are closed then, but some are open, as are the lodge, Village grocery, etc. Some mountain trails are hikable, others not.
we went last november....glacier point was closed..to prepare for ski season i guess and tiago pass closed a few days after we left. there was already snow in the upper elevations (tiago pass)and the road out of the valley. as far as things to do...well, theres always hiking the trails and badger pass for sking. there was an ice skating ring when we were there. mariposa groves a just outside the valley....thats about it. DO NOT stay at yosemite west condos!!!!
