Yosemite, etc.

Hi: My wife and I will be visiting Yosemite, King's Canyon, and Sequoia Natl Park the end of June for 7 or 8 days of actual travel. We already have reservations near Yosemite for the 1st part of our trip. How should be plan our time? Thanks for your help!

Here are two great hikes in Yosemite

Each is a full day.

Curious - where did you book 'near' Yosemite ?

Some places - shall we say, exaggerate how close/convenient they are to YNP.

That should be a perfect time-The waterfalls should be going Full. When you say "near Yosemite" that means your going to have to drive daily. If you could get IN PARk I think would be much better. I think the trees in Sequoia are far better than Maripossa Grove in Yosemite. I'm not saying to skip the Maripossa Grove, but since you are going to Sequoia, you might consider it.
I agree with J62-Do the Panorama Trail and then connect with The Mist Trail to come back to the valley. You will need to ride a shuttle up(of course you could hike up-but that makes a super long difficult day). I think Congress Trail is the one to do in Sequoia. There is also a cave in Sequoia that for some reason, a lot of people miss. Crystal Cave is the name if I remember right. I would probably spend 4-5 days in Yosemite and 3-4 days in Sequoia/KC. I like Wuksachi Lodge in Sequoia. Sounds like a great trip. I wouldn't think bugs would be a concern by then either.

It's a 3+ hour drive from Yosemite to Sequoia. Plan on staying in or near Sequoia rather than doing a round trip from Yosemite.

Thanks for your comments - they're very much appreciated! I've written all your comments down and they'll be a big help in planning our trip.

JanisJ - we're booked at the Yosemite View Lodge in El Portal.

I'll check out Wuksachi Lodge for our stay in Sequoia. We'll definitely find lodging near King's Canyon and Sequoia and not take the long drive daily from Yosemite.

Thanks again!

If you could get in the park, in Yosemite Valley, that much better. Keep checking for cancellations.

Oh - that is great. El Portal is the only area actually close enough to pop in and out of the Valley.

Sure you can look for cancellations, but Yosemite View is the best outside-the-park place one could book.

Regarding King's Canyon and Sequoia, has anyone stayed at the Comfort Inn & Suites Sequoia King's Canyon or another motel/hotel in close proximity to both places that was satisfactory. Thanks!

We just stayed at Yosemite View this summer. I'd tell you to read my trip report but I haven't finished. Yosemite View Lodge is the closest you can get to the park without being inside the gates.

I did not feel I missed anything during the daytime at Yosemite by staying at El Portal--we are ones to get up early and get going so we arrived in the park well ahead of the daytimers, and it is only a few miles drive.

What I think would have been nice were the Ranger talks and star walks in the evening. We were too tired to drive back to the park. Also,I am not 100 percent certain we would have attended them anyway. But that to me was the big piece that we missed out on by not staying in the park.

You can help yourself by picking up breakfast items on your drive to Yosemite View as the hotel's store is quite tiny. If you need more items after Day 1, get them at the better grocery store area within Yosemite Village before heading back to your hotel.

Thanks for the tips! We'll definitely follow your advice.

Yosemite View Lodge is in a beautiful place by Merced river. There is a shuttle to the park, don't remember free or not - it will take you to the free shuttles in Yosemite in case you don't want to drive.
