YOSEMITE ENTRANCE
 

Decided to spend a day at Yosemite Park during my trip to Sacramento and Tahoe. Been doing some research and readings online and note that there is more than one entrance to the park, east vs west, does it really make a difference which side you enter? Which side is the Yosemite Lodge located at, the one IN the park? And is Glacier Point IN Yosemite or just near by?

You will want to use the west entrance.

I should be more specific.
From Sacramento, use the west entrance.
From Tahoe use the east entrance if you are on the south side of the lake, that means taking 395 so. from Carson City Nevada (about 45 minutes from south Tahoe) down to 120 west (tioga pass) at the EAST entrance. This highway takes you through the park and then near the west entrance and is marked park entrance 140/ Yosemite park. entrance. The problem is that you have to enter at the west to see the Falls and get to the most popular spots in Yosemite Valley. please consult a map to decide.
There is a $20 vehicle fee per vehicle to use either route.

Actually maybe you could be more specific.?
Which is first? Tahoe or Sacramento? and what part of Tahoe.
P.S. Yosemite Lodge is nearer the West entrance.

Aloha HDV. There are two entrances you could take into Yosemite from Sacramento:

Via Highway 120 East

1. Take Highway 99 South to Manteca.
2. Exit onto Highway 120 East and follow directly into Yosemite National Park.

Via Highway 140 East

1. Take Highway 99 South to Merced.
2. Exit onto Highway 140 East in Merced and follow directly into Yosemite National Park.

Note: Highway 140 is known as the All-Weather Highway because it is the lowest elevation route into the park. During heavy snowstorms, this route is usually a better alternative to Highway 120.

Yosemite Lodge in the park is located in Yosemite Valley. You will want to wind up there no matter which entrance you use. Glacier Point is inside the park, but at a higher elevation than the valley. It overlooks Yosemite Valley.

FYI - The east (Tioga Pass) entrance is closed with snow in the winter.

Thanks for the info. We will be going to Yosemite FROM Sacramento so I guess its the West entrance I want to enter from. I had wanted to also go to Glacier Point, but have read that Glacier Road will probably be closed for winter reasons, correct?

Besides hiking, biking, and checking out the views, any other activites to keep us busy there?

Yes, Glacier Point is closed in the winter. However, if you will be there in the winter when Badger Pass ski area is open, there are cross-country ski trips to Glacier Point. I think it's an overnight thing-and probably pretty rustic-but it would be beautiful.
