Yosemite - cell phone service?

Is there cell phone service in Yosemite Valley? What about other parts of Yosemite such Mariposa Grove and Tioga Pass? Thanks.

We were there last month. I have Verzion Wireless and I could get some reception in the valley. Couldn't get it near Happy Isle, but could get it in some places in Lower Pines Campground and on some places on the bike paths to Yosemite Falls. In previous years we have made calls from the top of Vernal Falls in the past.

The service we did get wasn't that good.

Also have Verizon and when we were there two weeks ago I had service in the valley. I don't know where else I could have had it as I didn't use my phone so much while there.

No service with Cingular in the Toulumne area or Tioga Pass. Don't know about the valley as I didn't try it there.

So one goes to one of America's jewels of nature. Experiencing the great out of doors. Perhaps the largest of our natural parks where wildlife abounds.....

and we are worried about our cel phone coverage?? Please!

oops, I meant national parks.

Well, I can see how some people might need to get in touch with family ocassionally. That's what I was trying to do (unsuccessfully). OTOH once I witnessed a guy sitting at the campfire at Tuolumne Meadows talking on his cell phone the entire time he sat there (so apparently some providers do have coverage! :D ) I was wondering why he was even there.

What cell phones? They don't even have TV reception.

On the happy side they have electricity and water closets.

I just used it to contact others in the park so we could meet for our hike. Should have used it to make dinner reservations though. ;) By the time we were able to drag ourselves away from the natural beauty all but the Mountain Room were closed.

Faina they now have TV in the Yosemite Lodge rooms. I was totally surprised as I had warned the kids that they would not have TV while we were there. Since we use only rabbit ears at our house they love to travel so they can get teh cable. DH threatens to leave us home and get a month of cable for our vacation!

We did not have Sprint service in the Park from the spots we tried to phone our parents last summer. But there are pay phones, if you REALLY need to get in touch with someone on the outside while enjoying this GORGEOUS part of our planet!

Yeah - heaven forbid someone might want to check in at home with their cel phone :))

Last year when we were there, we did not get any service and we are with Cingular.

There are several pay phones around, so I used one of those.

We usually only carry the cell phone on trips in case of emergencies, but while we were in Yosemite, our DS, DIL and grandson were traveling from South Carolina to California and I wanted to know each night that they were safe. We had the reservations for Yosmite before we knew they would be moving back to California.

Our parents still worry about us so they like for us to call and let them know we are ok.

When we called from Vernal Falls it was to call home and to tease our grown son about what he was missing!
