Yosemite Campground
 

We are going to be trying to book a campsite for this summer at Yosemite. Can anyone tell us which campground is the best between Lower Pines, North Pines, or Upper Pines?

Theose are all same. Curry Village has better bathrooms with showers.

Does Curry Village actually have campsites?

We have camped at all three campgrounds. They are all three in the same general area and across from each other. Upper Pines is the largest. North and Lower Pines are both much smaller. North Pines is right next to the stables...it can get smelly there in the summer. Something to think about! North and Lower have campsites right on the Merced River. They are all close to the shuttle bus stops. All the campsites are pretty close together. Some sites are much better than others!

Lower Pines 18, 39 & 41 if you want to be on the river. Beware that they might get more sun in the summer.

North Pines River campsites would be 101 - 113 but these are very close together! 526, 524, 552 & 520 have a little more space and are on the river.

When we camped in Upper Pines I liked the last loop 207, 208, 210, 211, 213, 214, 216, etc. They back the forest so you get a little more privacy. Be carefull, sites like 74, 109 are really close to the shuttle bus road and those shuttle buse run late in the evening in the summer time.

As for Curry Village. You rent tents there...not campsites. If you need showers you will have to go to Curry Village or Housekeeping for shower. Curry Village is within walking distance or you can take the shuttle buses.

Let me know if you have any other questions. We usually camp in Yosemite once a year...but we do go in the spring and fall to avoid the crowds.

Tuolumne Meadows is superior to all those campgrounds. Curry Village is like the barrio. Too many people, too much noise - loud music, kids.

I don't care for Curry village either, for the same reasons mentioned by AG. It is fine to go use their showers and things while camping elsewhere though.

Tuolumne Meadows might be superior to all those campgrounds but it's a far drive to Yosemite Valley!
