Need some info on Yosemite National Park. What sights should a reasonably fit Aussie see in 3 days? Thanks

There's loads of information about Yosemite on this forum. Do a search. Three days is a good amount of time to visit. You don't say what time of year and that could affect your plans greatly. If you're coming in our winter, it will be snowy and some of the higher passes will be closed, but accomodations within the park with be much easier to come by.

While checking out the websites listed above, you should look carefully at High Sierra Camp at Tuolumne Meadows. This camp is only open during summer months, as Tioga Pass to Lee Vining is closed in Winter. The camp features tent cabins with wood burning stoves for heat. Meals are served family style at large tables. Food is excellent, as chefs have all been trained at Awahnee in the valley floor, gourmet's delight. From High Sierra there are many day hikes available. Reservations are hard to come by, as space is reserved year in advance, but there are often cancellations. We showed up there one late Saturday afternoon, checked at the desk just as she got off the phone from a cancellation. Lucky us. This place is located next to a stream that feeds into Tuolumne Meadows, and is quite frankly one of the prettiest high alpine regions in the Sierra Nevadas. Good Luck.

I agree with above comment. Stay up near Toulomne Meadows. You can't ask for a more beautiful place with A LOT LESS crowds. Go see the valley for a day, but don't stay there - what a zoo!

Paul has provided a solid framework for a good three-day visit. As has been previously mentioned the time of your trip will affect where you can--or want to--go. <BR>One tip to avoid the crowds in the valley during tourist season: Go early before the daytrippers start arriving at around 10 a.m. Some of my best photographs were taken around 8 a.m. in what I call the "majestic silence of Yosemite."

the hike up to nevada falls is nice....should only take maybe 4-5 hours round trip. didn't care much for the hike up lower (or was it upper) yosemite falls. highlight of the trip for me was driving on tiago pass to the ghost town in Bodie , CA......took about 1 1/2 hours to get there.

Rob is right about Nevada Falls. Forgot about that highlight. If you're in good shape, take the hike up Vernal Falls and continue on th Nevada Falls. Great experience, but only if you're in good shape. It's not for the faint of heart!

The National Park Service has an excellent web site with maps and all the information you need to plan an excellent trip to this very special park. Visit www.nps.gov/yell and check it out. The Yosemite Association, a private park support group, also has a good web site at www.yosemite.org - you can even check out a live cameria of the spectacular Yosemite Valley.
