York or Camden Maine?
Hi,

My wife and I have reservations at York Harbor inn for July. I'm wondering if I should change plans and try to stay up in Camden. What do you all think? Is Camden the better bet? I'm looking for a romantic b&b and small town atmosphere. Any suggestions would be great!! Thanks

Camden is beautiful, with mountains meeting the ocean, its really spectacular. Nice little town, with truly quaint b+b's. But then again, York is pretty nice too. I think Camden is quieter. If you want any nightlife, you'd probably have better luck in York. Camden for quiet romance.

I have never been to York, but I can tell you that there is NOTHING to do in Camden. IT wasn't even "quaint"! We spent a week there last June. We had planned to keep the house for a whole month, but we could barely stand 7 days. We quickly exhausted all the things/sights to do in town, there was about one good restaurant, and there wasn't even a nice atmosphere there. I don't know how anyone could think that camden was nice place to check out Maine. We went there on the rec of a friend. We quickly packed up and went to our usual summer hangout on Cape Elizabeth.

It is very hard to guess what someone else would like. York Harbor Inn and the area are great. If you want lots to do and lots of shopping that's the place. If you want to be more laid back and be in a small town with a beautiful harbor then try Camden. Your problem if you want to change will be that most places are booked by now. The best place in Camden is the Maine Stay Inn (www.mainestay.com). But don't try too hard York is old and full of history and you will have a good time no matter where you stay. My wife and I go to Maine each year and spend most of our time in Ogunquit (just up the road from York) and in Camden.

Hey, as long as we're talking about the Maine coast, don't forget Boothbay Harbor! I think Boothbay is prettier than Camden, although I think it's a bit smaller. But it really is beautiful there.
