York Area Lodging

Has anyone stayed in the Anchorage Inn- York?
Also, what is the difference between Long Sands and Short Sands beach?

I assume you mean York, Maine. I've not stayed at the Anchorage, but have visted York on my way to Ogunquit. Long Sands is the longer of the two main beaches. There are mainly motels (including the Anchorage)and houses that line the street across from Long Sands, and a few ice cream and clam shacks as well. Short Sands is a smaller beach and abuts more shops and restuarants, including my favorite, the Goldenrod taffy shop.

Short Sands is surrounded mostly by B&Bs and private homes; Long Sands is motels, some of them a little tacky. Both beaches are beautiful however. Short Sands has a playground, and you can easily walk to the village (which includes the above-mentioned taffy store).

The Anchorage Inn is in Ogunquit and would recommend this and Ogunquit over York. You can drive back down to Long Sands--it's much 'longer' and bigger than Short Sands and is in 2 different areas of York! However, Ogunquit's beach is unique to Maine's coast and is 3 miles long!
