Yet another reason to bypass Disneyland

The horror. The horror. Far worse news than the non-election, the Cole, wildfires, or floods:

Another price hike at feeble Disneyland. It's now $43 for adults, $33 for kids, and $41 for seniors -- second price hike this year. How many times can one do the Haunted House and still think it's worth the money?

Sneezy Nov 9th, 2000 04:57 AM

Why, why, why do people go to WDW? It's all . . . artificial. What's wrong with going somewhere real, like, Rome, Yellowstone, Hawaii?????
Why, why, why??????

Larry Nov 9th, 2000 05:04 AM

Sneezy, you answered your own question. Old Walt concieved Disney on the pretext of creating an "artificial" fantasyland. A "living" replica of what was going on in the animated films of the time. Just seems that some folks like to surround themselves in something artificial. Nobody's putting a gun to your head and making you fill Mickey's coffers. If you don't like the Mouse, DON'T GO. Plenty of others will.

Dave Nov 9th, 2000 05:07 AM

Why, why, why do people who love Rome, Yellowstone, and Hawaii mind if everyone else goes to Disney? I say, the fewer people I have to share those places with, the better.
JLPicard Nov 9th, 2000 06:16 AM

And I say the more people who go to Rome, Yellowstone & *GROAN* Hawaii the shorter the lines will be at WDW !

Dopey Nov 9th, 2000 06:22 AM

There will NEVER be short lines at WDW. Disney has control over all of our minds!!!!

Rodentophobe Nov 9th, 2000 06:33 AM

Disney indeed has control of our mind, or at least a lot of the info that reaches us, at least that via ABC, about 10 TV stations, 442 radio stations, ESPN, and a bunch of movie makers and distributors, including Miramax, Touchstone, Buena Vista, and Hollywood pictures.

Just ask Carl Hiaasen or Charlie Gibson what happens if someone tries to report something negative about Disney.....

Loafer Nov 9th, 2000 06:42 AM

Yeah, kind of like when one of the Disney ships sailed right through a hurricane that the rest of the ships managed to avoid (duh-it's called the National Weather Service) and it didn't make the news even though the ship had serious damage and some people got hurt. They totally control the news here on the Space Coast.

Whiska Nov 9th, 2000 07:04 AM

Here's a question: Disney don't allow their employees to sport 'facial hair' so why does the Mouse have whiskers ?

Annette Nov 9th, 2000 12:50 PM

Walt's vision and what has become the Disny Megaconglomerate are two totally different things!! Walt is probably spinning in his grave!! The Mega Disney is only interested in profits, profits, profits! Disney doesn't give a rats tail about family values! Disney has ruined the enviroment around Orlando, employs sweat shop labor to make its t-shirts and mouse ears, discriminates, and rewrites history in its movies like Pochantos and the rest, and uses mind control! France was smart, they did not want EuroDisney and the place never really took off! Americans are like sheep, led around by the noses!

Noach Nov 9th, 2000 05:00 PM

Thank you for telling the truth Anette. There was a documentary a while back which claimed even more negative things about Disney.

JLPicard Nov 10th, 2000 01:53 AM

Annette - exactly how have Disney ruined the environment around Orlando ? Isn't it just that other theme parks have opened to cash in on Disneys success ? ( I know some were there before the Mouse ). Eurodisney was renamed to Disneyland Europe & is doing quite well, I believe. PS did anyone know there is a Disneyland in Tokyo ??
Better than the Magic Kingdom in WDW in my opinion.

J T Kirk Nov 10th, 2000 04:14 AM

Jean Luc, is that you? Did you get caught in that wormhole, too? How's Worf and Data?
(Take care of my ship.)

JEan Nov 10th, 2000 08:23 AM

I guess I'm still a kid at heart. I just spent a day at Disneyland with my 6 year old grandson. I have been to Disney in Orlando several times. This was my first time to Disney in Ca. I loved it. Even if I had of been miserable all day (which I wasn't), the excitement in my grandson's eyes when he saw Mickey and all the other characters would have made it all worth while. What kind of price do you put on a kid's smile?

SnowWhite Nov 10th, 2000 08:32 AM

Why can't people go the Disney AND Yellowstone, Rome, etc.? Isn't it all about the experience and what makes you feel good?

Cinderella Nov 10th, 2000 11:32 AM

Why any one with half a brain knows that WDW destroyed the wetlands it is built on and destroyed natural habitat for wildlife. I forgot they put the birds and the wildlife in their cheesy movies so the world will know what they look like when they are all gone! One more thing, they are the biggest polluters around! And all that plastic used to make the fake fantasyland is carcinogens! But who really cares about the enviroment, pollution, cancer, sweat shops when they are having such a good time at such exhorbitant prices!!!

Bill Nov 10th, 2000 10:47 PM

Who CARES about the wetlands? Three cheers for Disney, you wacky, environmental cad!!!

Carson Nov 11th, 2000 04:14 AM

I assume, Bill, you have learned how to eat plastic and never eat seafood. I assume, Bill, you've learned how to breathe carbon monoxide and nitrogen. And you dislike the sound of birds. You never go fishing. You would never miss crocodiles or alligators if they disappeared from the face of the earth. And you love to go swimming in sewage.

Bill Nov 13th, 2000 10:38 PM

Carson, you're simply an environmental extremist, an alarmist and, quite frankly, an uneducated, misdirected fool!

Carson Nov 14th, 2000 04:31 AM

I have a Ph.D., "extremism in the pursuit of virtue is no vice," people who shout "fire" in a burning building are also alarmists, and name-calling is the adult equivalent of "yeah, well, you're another!"

Actually I think the extremists are those who make decisions solely on the basis of next-quarter profits and continue to say global warming is a figment of science's imagination -- not unlike evolution. As for DisneyWorld, the environmental destruction visited on Florida is well documented.

You are free not to care about the environment, but you are not free to trash it. It's, indeed, a Small World.
