Yet another Ft. Lauderdale hotel question
 

We're heading to Ft. Lauderdale for a long weekend the end of March. Was going to do Priceline, but we are traveling with our kids and didn't want to take the chance we'd be stuck with one bed. We are attending a party to be held in Tamarac and we can take advantage of a group rate at the Hampton Inn on W. Commercial Blvd. in Tamarac. I can't seen to find much about this hotel - no reports on tripadvisor, etc.

Has anyone stayed here? Is the pool any good? If not, what are your experiences with Hampton Inns in general?

The last time we came down this area we stayed at the Ivernnay Resort (hah!) Let's just say this place may have been nice about 30 years ago.

In my opinion, Hampton Inns are very nice and usually boarderline on resorts. If they aren't in the best part of town, they are close. I've stayed in some Hampton Inn's that were nicer than four star properties.

AAA rates it as 3 stars and everything else in Tamarac as 2 stars. It notes that the motel is just off the freeway but quiet, with a "small heated outdoor pool". Good continental breakfast.

You might check for a Residence Inn nearby as their rooms are spacious and the breakfast is great. Amerisuites is usually our 2nd choice, followed by Hampton Inns.

What about Marriott Harbor Beach Resort. Hear it's a very nice hotel which is available on priceline.

Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is on the ocean and at the east end of Commercial Blvd. You might want to look at some places there because they are usually efficiencies and close to a nice area of the beach. I like this area and you might get a decent rate on a place on or very close to the beach.

There are plenty of suite hotels along Commercial Blvd between State Road 7 and I-95. There's an executive airport on Commercial Blvd but they don't have night-time flights, so the noise shouldn't bother you.

I'll check expedia and travelocity to see if I can find something in the area.

Commercial Blvd is a busy highway, but not as bad as some of the major highways in Ft Lauderdale. I travel it often and it is my preferred east/west roadway with regard to traffic.

If you are only going to Tamarac once, for the party, then I would stay at a beach property.

If you are going to be there back & forth, then I would take the Hampton or the Commercial Blvd or Cypress Creek prop.

The beach is not convenient to Tamarac on a daily basis.

Hello all. Many thanks for your replies! The "party" we're going to is an all weekend kind of thing: Fri. night is a buffet type get together, Sat. night is a big formal dinner get together and Sun. is a brunch. The Hampton Inn is where we got a group rate, so my husband's brother and cousins will be staying there. And the price is right. But I definitely want to get to the beach Fri and Sat. afternoons. How long of a drive is Tamarac to the beach? And which beaches are really nice? We are with our boys and prefer beaches that are more natural as opposed to lined with high rises. I guess clean and not crowded with college spring breakers would be the most important things!

I looked up the Hampton Inn on Commercial Blvd. It is next to the Florida Turnpike (very, very busy area for traffic) and the Fire Dept is right next door (sirens), just thought I'd let you know. However, it is a newer property, only a couple years old.

Personally, I'd stay there only for convenience. However, if you will have to head east from this property, it might be difficult at times.

I'd look at areas a little farther east if I were you. Then you could easily get to the parties and to the beach. There are some suite-style places between U.S. 441/St Rd 7 and I-95 as this is a business area. I know there is either a Staybridge or Homestead just east of 441 not far away from the Hampton Inn everyone is staying.

Hi! You may want to consider staying in Coral Springs, which is just south of Tamarac. There are several hotels: La Quinta, Courtyard by Marriott, Wellesley and Studio 6. Hillsboro Beach is 20 minutes from Coral Springs...and is a beautiful beach!

I drove by the Hampton Inn on Commercial Blvd at the Turnpike and they have a traffic signal so you won't have any problem accessing the hotel. They recently finished some road work in front of the hotel, so you won't have to worry about getting stuck in the construction, either.

The Fire Dept is right next door, between the hotel and the turnpike entrance, however, the entrance to the FD faces toward the hotel. You might want to make sure you aren't near the front of the hotel. If you want to be with your family, this should be okay. Sounds like you won't be spending much time in the hotel anyway.
