Yellowstone Tours

In June 04, we're planning a trip to YNP. We are flying into Salt Lake City, driving to Grand Tetons for a 2 night stay, then 4 days in Yellowstone - then driving back to SLC. With all the driving, we're considering going on the motorcoach tours in Yellowstone for a break. Has anyone ever gone on one of these tours? Are they any good?

We were in the Tetons and Yellowstone last August. I am not familar with the coach tours and do not remember seeing any. Once we hit the park, we didn't do that much driving except to go from, like, Old Faithful area to Canyon area, etc. We spent 3 days in the Park and walked most of every day with the freedom to go where we wanted to go and do what we wanted to do.

It's less than 300 miles from SLC to the Grand Tetons. That's only one easy day of driving.

I've been to Yellowstones many times and love the freedom to go where I want, when I want. Check in the visitor center for estimated times of some of the geysers and hang around until they go off. You can't do that with a tour.

Another draw back of a tour group is you are guarenteed a lot of people at each stop...your fellow passenagers.

Even in the motorcoach your going to be on the road traveling the park. Just the driver will have the benefit of not actually driving.

I agree with the above posters...if you have a car, use it for the flexibility. I don't recall seeing many tours either, although we were there in Sept. 2002 after Labor Day.
