Yellowstone/Teton Vacation
 

Planning a Yellowstone/Teton vacation the last two weeks of Aug.this year(2000).Flying to SLC,renting a car, driving to Jackson spending 2 nights there then to Yellowstone for 1 night in Grant Village,3 in Canyon village,2 at Roosevelt lodge cabins.We will drive back to SLC to return. Would welcome suggestions on scenic routes between SLC & Jackson. We are considering an additional night in Cody and drive back from there so a scenic route from there would be welcome. Where is the best "authentic" rodeo? We have information on all the normal touristy items <BR>but would welcome suggestions on out of the ordinary or local favorites in all areas. We would like to get a little bit "off the beaten track" but our hiking endurance is limited as are our financial resources? any updated info. or suggestions welcome.What is the best float trip? We are doing the cookout/ride at Roosevelt-would it be worth it to also do the Chuckwagon Dinner in Jackson? Are they very different? What is the best animal wildlife trip?

You say you're plannng a Yellowstone/Tetons vacation, but aren't spending any nights in the Tetons. If it's not too late, I would recommend switching at least a couple of the Yellowstone nights to the Tetons. <BR>I can recommend the float trip that leaves from the Jackson Lake Lodge in the Tetons. And if the weather's hot, take an early-morning float trip.

I agree with the above. The Tetons are beautiful. I recommend Signal Mountain Lodge if any rooms are available. Be sure to stop at the Chapel of the Transfiguration just inside the South entrance for a beautiful view. I also recommend the boat trip across Jenny Lake for the hike. We saw a very good rodeo in Jackson. It's just down the street from the Cowboy Village hotel. In my opinion, one cookout type dinner is plenty and the one from Roosevelt is as good as any. We did a fishing trip in Yellowstone and our lodge smoked our catch for us. We did about a quarter of the figure eight loop per day and saw everything we wanted. The ranger talks and guided hikes were very enjoyable. These are posted at the visitor centers.

Thanks for the suggestions. We are not staying in the Tetons because everything was full but plan on spending a couple of days at least in the Tetons taking a float trip,hiking,taking scenic drives.

Delighted to hear that you're spending time in the Tetons. Surprised that you could get accommodations in Yellowstone, but but not the Tetons. Hey, maybe the word has spread about how great the Tetons are!
