Yellowstone Room Sizes
We want to go to Yellowstone this summer. I was looking at the lodging website, and everywhere I checked, only four people were allowed in a room. We have three kids. Which places have two queen sized beds or more? I really don't want to get two rooms. Thanks.

How old are your kids? We stayed there 5 years ago at the Old Faithful Inn with kids ages 16, 14 and 11. I think one may have slept on the floor, but at those ages, at least one doesn't mind the floor. We had 2 queen sized beds. We were in the more modern part of the hotel, with our own bathroom. Maybe we didn't tell them that we had 3 kids, might have just admitted to two. It was a great place to stay and I would recommend it . If you have younger kids, you will definitely fit into a standard room.

Most standard size hotel rooms only allow 4 people due to (I think) fire regulations. We are a family of 5 and just never tell about the '5th' person. One kid always sleeps on the floor--we usually travel by car so have extra sleeping bags/pillows w/us.
Old Faithful Inn is wonderful, I'd love to live there!!(we stayed in the modern part also) but the rooms aren't real big--it's not like you'll be spending alot of time in there any way. Check out this cool webcam for Old Faithful!! http://www.nps.gov/yell/oldfaithfulcam.htm |
We stayed in cabins at Canyon. They had two beds (full? queen?) plus a day bed. It would easily sleep 5.

When our kids were younger, we also brought a sleeping bag/pad and one person slept on the floor. Most rooms have 2 double beds at the old faithful inn.
Also, the old rooms in Yellowstone have great character even though they don't have their own bathroom and cost alot less if you want to consider 2 rooms if your kids are older. We didn't spend much time in the rooms itself, the lobbies are a great place to hang out when not out sightseeing. |
P.S. we told them we had 4 people, not 5 when renting 1 room.

You might give the concessionaire a call. I called them last summer and they were very helpful with room information (you can just get info and not have to book at that time.) They have do some rooms available at the Old Faithful Inn that don't appear on the website.
Have a great trip! |
Ask for a room in the "Old House" of Old Faithful Inn. One year we stayed in a room with a queen, a double and a twin. Hadn't requested it, but it was great, with dormer window overlooking the geysers (not THE geyser but others nearby). Only had a sink in the room, with a shared bath nearby.
While visiting last summer, they were doing renovations on that floor (2nd) so not sure if those rooms are still there. Definitely worth checking into, however. |
Thanks everyone for the great advice. The kids are 16, 14, and 5, so the "four" of us will have a great trip to the Old Faithful Inn!
