Yellowstone or Snake River for Whitewater

I posted this question earlier today but can't find it anywhere. Don't know what I did wrong.

Anyway, which river is the best for whitewater rafting in early to mid August, keeping in mind that that the 11 year-old can't stand it too rough?

We could do the Yellowstone from Gardiner before we leave YNP or wait and do it when we get to the Snake River in Jackson?

Which one would be the better choice?

Thanks,
Lynda

We did a float trip in the Grand Tetons in the summer of 2003. It was a great trip, but definitely not "whitewater." It was beautiful, peaceful, and adventuresome, without the rapids. The company we used was Solitude Float Trips out of Moose, WY. I would highly recommend their 10-mile trip versus the 5-mile trip.

We started our trip in Yellowstone and ended it in the Tetons. I did not see any rafters while in Yellowstone.

Forgot to add: We took our 9 year old daughter and our 7 year old son on the float trip and they loved it!

I don't ever remember seeing anyone whitewater raft the Yellowstone. We float it in a canoe and fish.

I second the recommendation to float the Snake from Moose. There are several good companies--Triangle X Ranch and Barker-Ewing are two big ones. I think they do whitewater trips too but I hear a lot more about their floats.

We are taking one this summer with Triangle X with dinner on shore midway through the trip.

Thanks, Caniac and Connie.

I realize the water will not be that high that late in the summer, but I still would like to have a little "action". We went on a float trip down the Colorado from Lake Powell to the Glen Canyon Dam last year and it was wonderful. I'd like something a little different this year, though.

Thanks again.

Lynda
