Yellowstone on a motorcycle

When we were in Yellowstone traffic stopped a number of times and our car was surrounded by buffalo. We were in a convertible and felt very vunerable. (Of course, it was one of the highlights of the trip!) Now my sis and her hubby want to take their motorcycle to Yellowstone. Should they be concerned??

If you leave the bison alone they will return the favor. You see 'cycles in Yellowstone all the time. Especially around the time of Bike Week In Sturgis.

I saw a video somewhere of a bike in a traffic jam. Turned out to be a bear jam. The sow and cub walked right past the bike. Neither looked at the other so I guess all was good.

RedRock is of course correct. Bikes all over the place.

The biggest problem with the buffalo is when the tourists decide they are going to get up close to take a picture. Signs are posted all over the park warning not to do this, you would think people would abide. If you stay on the bike, you will be fine. I agree, just ignore the buffalo.

tgbwc - that is the second biggest problem. The first biggest problem is when tourists think it would be great to put their little brats ON the bison or moose and try to take a picture. What are they thinking? This is not WDW nor is it a petting zoo.

When another couple and my husband and I went thru Yellowstone and Yosemite on our cycles, we had no problem with animals!! However, we had enough sense to stay on the bikes and move with the traffic. It is the most beautiful ride you will ever have!! WE stayed in West Yellowstone and froze in August!! But it was wonderful. The most trouble we had was in the Black Hills, the donkeys really gather around you!!

A couple of weeks ago a 12 year old boy from PA stood two feet from a bison in YNP. He was airlifted out.

As I recall he was that close to the bison so his dad could take a picture of the two of them together.

Gail, some people..........jeez. Those buffalo are so dangerous when they are approached. I also remember going there a few years ago and some kids wanted to see if the thermal pools were hot, so they were stepping off the boardwalk. Fortunately, the ranger was close by.....he was firm, but on the same time trying to explain to people why they have to do that. The parents didn't even seem to care. I honestly cannot believe some tourists.
