Yellowstone - Old Faithful Snow Lodge - Feb '06

Hi:

Has anyone ever been to the Old Faithful Snow Lodge in the Winter. I'm trying to make plans to go; however, getting from the airport to the lodge seems a bit cumbersome. Apparently, the West Yellowstone airport is closed during that time of year so the recommendation is to fly to Bozeman; however, since cars are now allowed in the park during the winter I'm trying to figure out how I would get from the airport in Bozeman to West Yellowstone and then from West Yellowstone to the Snow Lodge ... hope someone can help!!

Thanks!

Beaglemom,
There's shuttle service www.karststage.com from Bozeman airport to West Yellowstone or Mammoth Hot Springs or you can rent a car and drive.

To get to Old Faithful Snow Lodge, you have to take a snowcoach from West Yellowstone, Mammoth or Flagg Ranch. Information and schedules can be found at www.travelyellowstone.com (click on Winter).

The park isn't entirely closed to vehicle traffic in the winter. The other in-park accomodation that's open in the winter season is Mammoth Hot Springs and you can drive there. You can drive the northern road through Lamar Valley all the way from Gardiner to Cooke City.

When in Feb are you going? My husband and I have plans to visit Yellowstone from Feb 8-11. We're staying in Gardiner (just outside of the north entrance of the park) so that we can drive ourselves and will be taking a day trip by snowmobile to Old Faithful (you can also do the trip by snowcoach). I looked into staying at Old Faithful as well and decided that the entire process sounded too cumbersome.

Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for the info. I agree the process seemed so cumbersome that we actually decided on Mammoth Springs instead. It's close to Gardiner and we can drive right to the hotel. Then we can take the snowcoach to Old Faithful. We are going Feb 10 - Feb 17. We are so excited!!

We're staying at the Yellowstone Suites B&B in Gardiner on the nights of the 8th, 9th, and 10th. On the 11th, we're driving up to Chico Hot Springs, then onto Big Sky on the 12th. Hope you have great trip. Maybe we'll run into each other! :)

How was your trip? We decided to skip Chico Hot Springs and spend one night at the Old Faithful Snow Lodge afterall. I posted a report here - http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34757439

Hope you had a great time too!
