Yellowstone Lodging in August
 

Need to know a really nice lodge in Yellowston some time in August 22-29 I know it is late, but I might get a cancellation. First time I need rants and raves Thanks so much

The newest and nicest lodge in the park is the Old Faithful Snow Lodge. It is only a few years old and very nice. If you like the old rustic lodges, Old Faithful Inn, Canyon, Lake Yellowstone, and Mammath are good.<BR><BR>You are probably just going to have to settle for whatever you can get.

I second the motion for the Old Faithful Snow Lodge if you can get a cancellation there. The location is great (you can walk to all the geysers from there), and you can walk over to the Old Faithful Inn for a tour and/or lunch or dinner. We stayed there last summer and were very pleased. It's only a few years old and the rooms are very nice.

Sally, at this late date, take anything you can get! Unless you're very, very lucky, you're not going to have much of a choice...if any choice at all!

Sally<BR>My mother, my 2 dogs, and I stayed in the Canyon area in the cabins. I really enjoyed staying there. The Canyon area is centrally located, there was a rather large mini supermarket there, a souvenier store, a dining area, etc... I'd definitely stay there again.

Sally, what about a B & B? I just booked a B & B about 20-25 miles from Yellowstone for $90 per night. I called 7 or 8 and almost all had space available. Some were more than we wanted to pay though. We will be staying Aug 24 & 25. I checked with www.bbonline.com and saw pictures of most of them. Just a thought.

Really, really try to stay inside the park. Yellowstone is really large. You will be spending a lot of time just driving to and from if you stay outside. <BR><BR>www.nps.gov is the official web site for national parks. Find the number for reservations and talk to a live person. I have found them to be friendly and helpful. They hire retired people.

We stayed at Canyon Lodge and Grant Village. The first was a little nicer than the second, but both were fine. Hope you get a cancellation!

I would stay in the park also. It is quite a drive to not only get to the parks border but also to get to the loop roads in the park. If you're driving to the park I would recommend spending your first night in Red Lodge, MT and driving the Bear Tooth Pass into Yellowstone the next day. Parts of the Bear Tooth Pass are over 10,000 feet. I couldn't believe I was standing as high as the puddle jumper airplanes fly.

Sally, we have reservations at Canyon cabins for Aug. 22-25 (leaving on teh 26th). We were smart enough to make reservations there and at the Canyon campgrounds because we weren't sure what we wanted to do. We are opting for the campground. Before I cancel the cabin I'll give you first dibs on taking our place for those nights if you want. E-mail me at above & we can maybe work out a cancellation for us with a concurrent reservation for you. It's not a "really nice lodge", it's a rustic cabin, but if you're desperate enough... I'll be cancelling probably Sunday Aug. 4th so e-mail me before then.
