Yellowstone in the Winter

I am planning a trip with my family to Yellowstone in March along with skiing in Big Sky. What is the best way to see Yellowstone? How much can you see on a snowmobile and how many is two days enough? Is there another ski resort that is closer to Yellowstone, easier to get to(we are coming from Florida), and are there other National Parks that are close enough to visit in 7-10 days?

Seedless, check out the Yellowstone website. You'll find answers to most of your questions there. Only the Mammouth gate is open in winter, but not sure of exact dates. Only snow coach and guided snowmobile tours throughout most of YNP in winter.

You could also cross-country ski. It's a beautiful way to see some of the Park.

Big Sky has great skiing!

Seedless,
My husband and I went to Yellowstone over Christmas a couple of years ago. It was wonderful. We did a package called Lodging and Learning that included hotel, tours, transport to the inside of the park, and some meals. The tours were great-we went out to look for wolves, got great info. about geology of area, went skiing in the backcountry (equipment provided). We ate lunch with the group-about 8 people-then had dinner at the restaurant in/next to the lodge by ourselves every night. It was a good balance.

The nps.org website will have information on the packages the park has. In the winter, you have to arrange for transportation to get to the Snow Lodge, because cars can't make it to the inner sections of the park. You can do snowmobile tours, though I think you see more and get the tranquility of the park better from skis.

Good luck with plans. It is very beautiful there in the winter. Make sure to take tons of lotion-the air is soooo dry.

One of my friends went on a cross country ski trip there and raved about it! Her photos were fabulous
