Yellowstone Crowds

Two families are planning a trip through The Rockies and Utah in the summer. I was planning on Yellowstone in mid to late June, to avoid some of the summer crowds. Has anybody been there at that time? Does it make a difference, rather than going in July? Thanks for the feedback?

We were there the first week of June and the crowds hadn't started yet.

I would ask this same question over on this board.

It's all about Yellowstone and very active.

we went in mid june 2002 and it was pretty uncrowded. However, we got the last rooms available (Old Faithful Lodge cabins) when we reserved in late January.

As soon as you can settle on dates for the trip, make reservations in the park. If you are staying longer than 3 days in the park, then I would make them at two different locations - it's a big park.

Thank you both

We were in Yellowstone June 19-22. Rangers said the campgrounds were filling up for the first time that season. The Old Faithful area was a little congested but not a problem. It's a good time of year to visit. As others said, reserve your accomodations ASAP. When I made ours in early December, some places were booked.
