Yellowstone Cabins
 

Can anyone share their experiences with the cabins at Yellowsone National Park? Are any better than others?

When are you planning on going? It might be a good place to start to see which cabins are available for your dates and then get feedback. Lodging books up fast for summer dates.

Yes, some cabins are better than others. Generally the hierarchy goes like this:

Western (modern)
Frontier (simple)
Pioneer (simpler)
Budget (basic)
Roughrider (funky with a woodstove)

That said, the quality differs among the different locations. We stayed in the OF Snow Lodge Western Cabins (built in 1989) and the Canyon Western Cabins (built in 1969). The former was definitely more modern than the latter!

I think the photo's are fairly representative of the actual accommodations.

I've stayed at the cabins at both Old Faithful and Mammoth, and enjoyed Mammoth more. They have two double beds and a sink, and the restrooms/showers are in a separate building (like a campground arrangement.) The cabins are clean, and the ground squirrels that live under them are very entertaining.

The Old Faithful cabins are OK -- I believe the restrooms were inside the lodge or hotel. But Mammoth was more peaceful.

However, there's nothing that compares with staying at Old Faithful Inn. Even there, if you stay in the original part, the bathrooms are down the hall. Don't confuse the Inn with the lodge. They are not the same.

The cabins I have stayed at in all of the NP have always been small, quaint and spotlessly clean. Some come with a bathroom and some share a community bathroom...that is the only part I minded...I do like to have a bathroom to visit in the middle of the night w/o going outdoors.
