Yellowstone ???
 

Thinking of spending 5 nights in Yellowstone Park in August. Too much time or not enough. Also where is the best place to stay for 2 adults.

I stayed at the Lake Yellowstone Hotel for 3 nights in mid September. That was perfect but you'll have much more traffic to deal with in August. The hotel is lovely. Make sure you see the Grand Tetons! The Jackson Hole Rodeo is a great piece of Americana. If you're in Jackson Hole, The Snake River Grill is the best restaurant.

If you include Grand Tetons National Park (and you should), five days will be about right. If you feel you've seen it all after four days, take some hikes to places the roads don't go -- and you'll escape 95% of the crowds in a matter of fifteen minutes.

I will be greatly surprised if you have a choice of where you stay in Yellowstone during August. You are talking about August of 2001 are you not? <BR> <BR>I haven't checked availability lately, but I suggest you call rather than trying the website. I do not know if it is true, but I have heard that sometimes you can get a place over the telephone while the web site shows nothing available. <BR>My first choice is the Old Faithful Snow <BR>Lodge. But some people prefer the Lake, for obvious reasons.

I got curious and checked. <BR>For mid August, 2 nights, there were still a few Frontier Cabins available at Lake Yellowstone. (The time is nearly midnight, EDT, on Saturday Feb 10.) <BR>Good luck. I hope you act in time to get something you want as opposed to something you have to take. <BR> <BR>5 nights for me would be great. <BR>I of course prefer to stay near the geysers. Watching a geyser erupt by the light of a full moon is beautiful. <BR>Particularly if your best girl friend is with you and likes the same things, as mine does. <BR>

I meant 5 nights. Past my bed time. <BR>But act quickly, because they start to go fast this time of year. Others are making summer plans, too. <BR>To me the one place in Yellowstone I do not like is Grant Village. It is just another motel, but one with small rooms and zero character. You might as well be in a pint sized room at a big city hotel in that respect. <BR>

As previous posters have intimated, at this late date, it's almost a case of "take what's available"! Five days is fine...more would be even better! Yellowstone and the Tetons are each worth at least two days! Jsut be prepared for crowds in August. If you can postpone the trip until early September, it'll be even more enjoyable.
