Yankees/WhiteSox game Need Hotel
 

My husband and I are coming to New York on Sept.15 for just 2 nights. The main reason for him is to see the Yankees play in the old stadium. Myself I would like to see the attractions. Where is a good place to stay? I see that hotels are $500 plus a night so I want to stay at a nice one with good location. I don't have a clue!!!

I just booked the Warwick hotel for $199 for a king, no view, for late August. Check on Travelzoo to see if it is available for the dates you need, or if not, there could be another that you could use. If you can afford it, plan on staying in central Manhattan, south of Central Park, and you will be close to shows, etc.

I just put your dates in Kayak (kayak.com - website that compares prices form other websites), and hotel prices do appaer to be very high for those dates. There were some decent options in the $300-400 range.

You should also call some of the hotels directlry, or check their websites. Many times there are AAA discounts and similar that are better than any rates you can find on booking sights like expedia. Even Kayak, which does a pretty good job of comparing, does not compare special discounted rates that are frequently available through the hotel.

Another option is to bid on a room using priceline. That's where you can usually get the best rate. Check out biddingfortravel.com to get an idea of what hotels are usually awarded and at what prices.

Check the local hotel sites for specials. Hilton.com may have some. Also, there is an embassy suites at World Financial which is relatively inexpensive. Nice area for walking, easy access to ferry for Statue of Liberty and walk to the subway for Yankee stadium.

Thanks for the help. I did book a room at the Belvedere that a friend recommended. With breakfast included it was $299 a night. I do hope that is will be ok!!!

I found the Excelsior at about the same price on Orbitz. Not sure what their cancelation policy is though. It should also include breakfast and is in a nice location on the upper west side across from the Mus. of Natural History. You'd be a bit closer to Yankee stadium from there and I think it's a more pleasant location.

It's good that you've got a room booked as a "guarantee". But I would check rates as you get closer to your travel date. With the way things are going, rates will continually fluctuate. And you may find better rates as your travel date nears. You can try Quikbook.com and also call the hotels you are interested in directly. You might get a better rate this way. Our 2nd trip to NY is next week and we'll be staying at the Millenium UN Plaza. Great views of the east river, uptown and downtown depending on which side your room is on. And well worth a few more dollars.
