Yankees Game? Will this work?

Help! I'll be in NYC Aug. 28-Sept.1 and would love to see the Yankees. Their only game during that time is Thurs. Aug. 28 at 1:00 PM. The problem is my plane lands at LaGuardia at 11:30 AM. (There's no earlier flight.) I will also have luggage in tow. Will I be able to make a 1:00 PM game time? I will have to drop off my luggage at a midtown hotel first unless someone has any other ideas. Help!!!

I highly doubt you will make the game in time. First you need to collect your luggage. Then you have to get a taxi to the city, which could be a pain at that time. You'll get a cab but the traffic can be bad. Then after dropping off the luggage you will have to take the 4/5 train to the stadium and that could take a while as well. However, you may be able to make part of the game so why not try? Kind of depends on how much the tix are. I highly doubt you'd make it by one unless you go right from the airport but I don't know if there is a place to store your luggage at the stadium.

Unless your plane is very early, it's highly unlikely that you'll make to Yankee Stadium by 1 p.m. Whatever you decide, do NOT take you bags with you to the stadium. They won't let you in with them and there's no place to check them.

Thanks for the help. The more I looked at my question, the more I realized how impossible this would be! I think I'll opt for the Mets instead. They're in town for 3 games and I can take my time getting there. Is it safe to ride the subway from Shea back to midtown Manhatten at night after a night game?

I'm going to play off of bastrop52's question to ask what they do allow in Yankee statium. I plan to go also, and am curious if they allow cameras, video cameras, backpacks. Thanks!

I don't think they allow backpacks, and they do go through any bag you bring into the stadium for security reasons. There is nowhere to store anything. Also you can't bring any food or drinks into the stadium.

I would suggest getting to the city the night before on the 27th instead of the 28th that way you could see the Yankees game. The Mets are already not doing well, so you might want to see a good game instead.

I would suggest going to the Yankees website for more info and to buy tickets.

Have a great time.

The ride back to Manhattan from either Shea or Yankee stadium is safe at any time. The trains will be full with people coming back from the game.

Check here for info on what can be brought into the stadium.

While we're on the subject of going to Yankee Stadium, my wife and I will be going to a night game there in July as part of our vacation. How's the stadium food and prices, and would we be better off eating there or at better (and cheaper) alternatives for dinner before the game within walking distance?

If I really wanted to catch the game, I would hop off the plane and head straight for a cab. They'll store the luggage in the luggage room near baggage claim. Come back after the game and get your luggage. I did something similar pre-9/11, not sure if it would be a problem now. A flight had been late and I had to make a meeting and had to leave the luggage behind to make it in time. Came back a few hours later and it was just sitting in a pile.

djdave, definitely eat before you enter the ballpark. As with most other sports venues, food is very expensive. There are plenty of options in the area.

HowardR, thanks for the tip. Figured Yankee Stadium might be a little pricey like most ballparks. Any suggestions on good cheap eats within walking distance of the stadium?
