No - this is the Bronx - cabs don;t cruise there. You might find a local car service - but it might take a while. And for the Yankees if a game begins at 1 pm you will typically be leaving the stadium at around 4:30 (unless it's a complete blowout). At 2 or 2:30 the area outside the stadium will be very quiet - and no chance of a cab. Call Carmel or Dial 7 to get a car to pick you up.

(In New York cabs cruise the area of Manhattan below 96th St and the airports). Since there are only about 30,000 cabs the rest of the city hs to make do with car services - which you can catch at some specific places in the outer boroughs - or you can call. You will know they are car services since they will be large dark sedans with a T license place.)

Sorry - I have had security lines at LGA take more than an hour - in which case arriving at 4 means you will miss your plane. If you want to risk it fine - if it were me I would just change the tickets so you don't have to rush.

Oh - and you need to call the car service and arrange a car in advance (the day before is a good idea). If yo wait until you're ready to leave you may find they can;t get you a car for a couple of hours.

I see your point but I'm flying Delta and I'm Gold Medallion, so my son and I should get through the shorter line quickly PLUS we aren't checking PLUS we'll have all ready checked in online.

Also, if were leaving in the 6th inning and already have a car service waiting, isn't LGA only a half hour tops from Yankee stadium?

Anyway, I won't be stupid, but I'm thinking we can stay at the game until at least 245-3pm.

Also, I plan on calling the airline to see if I can convince them to waive some of the change fees. If I can get on a flight even an hour later it would help.
I just don't want to pay $350 to make the change.

Getting from Yankee stadium to LGA can take 15 minutes to more than an hour - depending on traffic, accidents, construction etc. If you call one of the major car services the day before they can tell you how long they think it will take based on current conditions.

Perhaps this is a heretical notion, but on a Sunday afternoon, I'd probably find it a bit easier to take the number 4 subway down into Manhattan, get out near a major station like 59th Street, hop in a cab, and head right across the Queensboro Bridge to LGA.

It will take about 20 minutes to get down to 59th Street and another 20 or 30 to get to LGA. If you walk out of Yankee Stadium no later than 2:45, then you have a 20- to 30-minute cushion to get to the airport by 4pm, and since you aren't checking bags, you don't really even need that cushion; you could arrive as late as 4:45 and still make your flight, albeit perhaps not comfortably. I think you'd still have time to stop by the hotel, dash in, and pick up your bags while the meter is running.

I think you'll have more problems meeting up with a car service at a specific location and time in the area around the stadium.

One caveat: Check in for your Delta flight before you leave the hotel on Sunday morning. Keep your boarding pass in your pocket with you so you don't have to print it out again. That means you walk straight into the security line at LGA, which shouldn't take much more than 10 or 15 minutes at that time of the day. Boarding will commence by 5 or so, and you really do want to be at the gate no later that 5pm. Otherwise, I think you have a lot of leeway.

I do like the idea of checking your duffles outside the stadium. People do that all the time when they are coming directly from work to a game, and alot of those bags have laptops in them. I think you can trust Stan's.

Thanks all for your help.

We went to the game, stayed until 3PM, got a car service right outside Gate 2 (where they all line up) and made it back to the hotel by 3:15, and to the airport by 3:45.

In fact we made it in time to make the 4:20 flight! My son was giving me a hard time over being there early, but I told him that it doesn't always go this well with NYC traffic and security.

All in all, it worked out great. Got to see my Tigers Jump to a 9-6 lead before we left, and we made the flight.

Thanks again everybody!

I have a better idea, is there a later flight you can catch ad go standby, check with Delta and see. That way you can catch the whole game. Getting out of the STadium is CRAZY since you are leaving with thousands of other fans, and Sunday is always a busy day.

I live within walking distance of the stadium, and there are usually alot of what in this area are called "service cars", and they tool around upper Manhattan the bronx, much like cabs but the fares are set, so ASK when you get in the price to go to LGA, since these cars don't have fare boxes.

Have a great time while you are here.
