Yankee Tickets
My husband and two daughters will be in NYC for
Memorial Day weekend. Early on we tried to get
tickets to the Yankee game on Saturday afternoon. There were tickets available but as you can guess not the greatest seats. IF we head to the stadium on Saturday will there be much trouble getting 4 tickets from indivduals selling on the street?

Normally I would never go to the stadium on a Saturday without tickets. Given that this is a holiday weekend makes it even tougher. The Yankees always draw a big crowd on a weekend. Four tickets together could also be a problem, as street scaplers often have onesies and twosies people sell them on their way in.
On the plus side, it is KC, AL Central cellar dwellers, so that will keep some away.
All said, especially Sat afternoon holiday weekend, I'd get tickets from a broker like www.stubhub.com or www.gotickets.com before hand. Two weeks ahead they will still have a broad selection. You will pay a premium, but I've had good luck getting good tickets (~$45-50 list price) for ~$60 on either site.

Thanks so much everyone!! We figured since it was a holiday weekend most New Yorkers would be out of town and tickets would be a snap to find. We did check out www.stubhub and will go there to be sure we have tickets before we get to the stadium.

You may also want to check out e-bay to see what they have available. Since some of these are people selling their own tickets the prices can SOEMTIMES be better than scalpers - who usually ask at least double the face value - yes even for KC - tickets for a good team are even more.

A word of caution about scalpers, ebay, Craigs List - when you buy MLB tickets on line from team website, they often offer/encourage the "print tickets at home" option. There is nothing to stop a person from printing multiple copies of this printer ticket and selling multiple copies.
Problem is only first one with that specific bar code thru turnstyle is considered valid.

I have bought lots of tickets from stubhub.com for b'way shows & various sporting events, incl NYYY tix 3-4 times. I've always received original, box office tickets, not the print-at home version.

That is why I did not mention stubhub or ticket brokers in my caution - I spoke of street scalpers, and anonymous person to person transactions on internet. I would have every confidence in buying from stubhub or a ticket broker (and have done both) since at least you have their reputation and guarantee so you can get your money back if there were ever a problem (and I have never heard of anyone having a problem with these 2 options - but have seen people turned away at turnstyle at Fenway in Boston with paper tickets)
