yankee stadium seating
I'm taking my son and a friend to the US Open over Labor Day weekend. Thought we might take in a Yankees game, too. The best seats available on their site are in Tier 8, Row S, behind home plate-only $19 ea. Seats appear very high and with middle-aged eyes, can I or the boys see anything?
Thanks. |
The "expert" in this house is not home now, but I think it is safe to say that at $19, unfortunately the seats are not going to very good. If I get more info later I will post again.

I think those seats are in NJ!! Here is the Yankee Stadium seating diagram, as well as the prices. Enjoy!

Have you looked at this:
http://yankees.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/ny...rk_seating.jsp Given it's row S, you're going to be fairly high up. If you click on the above link, you can zoom in our section 8 and judge for yourself. I've sat that high on occassion and I don't remember thinking I couldn't see what was going on. Now, if you're not sensitive to price or have some room in your budget, I'm sure you can find better seats on Craigslist or through a ticket broker. |
As a Yankees fan since the age of 6 - and have been going to the Stadium since then - from those seats you will have trouble seeing anything even WITH binoculars.
Decent seats are about $50 each (field box seats are about $100 each). But since the better seats are gone from the box office you would need to get something either on e-bay or from a scalper. Assume you will have to pay about double the face value - since it is only Minn. If you do e-bay be sure the seller has a good record, time to get the tickets to you and gives you full info about where they are (I've seen one of two imply they have field boxes when they're really main boxes - should be much cheaper). If you prefer an on-line scalper we usually use stubhub.com - which has not cheated us (their prices are not among the highest). If you choose you can try to hangout at the Stadium before the game to buy from real scalpers - but this is illegal - you have little choice of tickets - and they may even not be real. |
I disagree.
I went to a couple of Yankee Red Sox playoff games the year the Red Sox won the world series and sat in that area. The seats aren't that bad and the fans are really into the game. In fact, when Schilling beat the Yankees (I think it was game 6), I sat on the highest row row in the stadium. The view was ok. I went to opening day this year and sat directly behind home plate, but in that section. No problems. It's not necessary to bring binoculars. The view isn't great, but it's not that bad. I think baseball is is almost always better at the game than on TV. It's fun to be at the stadium, and sometimes you find that the further away you are from the field, the more passionate the fans are. No reason not to go to the game. Your son will have a good time. He'll remember that you took him to the game, and he won't care how great the seats are. (Remember, that you can always move down if the Stadium starts to clear out.) |
Those seats are fine. I don't like being that high up in RF because you can't see the corner but in sect 8 you'll be OK. I sat in the last row directly behind home plate and thought the view was fine. I think it's much better than being in the lower level down by the foul pole at double the price.

The seats appear to be above the dugouts and are not all that bad but are high up...in the infield. Lots of steep steps!

I buy my tickets at stubhub.com. They have ticktets avail for just about every tame. Paying $75 for a $50 ticket is about the going rate that I pay. If you can, I recommend you sit no higher than the middle tier, and no futher out than 1st base or 3rd base.
The game definitely has a different feel when you are closer to the infield vs upper deck or far out along the baselines. |
These are not terrible seats. The only bad seats in my opinion, are behind the foul poles because they're destracting.I've been to dozen of games at the stadium and have sat just about everywhere...including big bucks 3 rows from the field..it's the whole experience of going there. Allow plenty of time to see Monument Park!Check out stub hub and Ebay (stay away from Ticket fast tickets if at all possible)
Yankee Stadium is my Graceland..one of the few things I had to say goodbye to when I moved out here to WA! |
I recently did the tour of Yankee Stadium....it was great. We got to go in the dugout, walk on the field and go in the locker room. This was just before the season started. A great way to see the stadium from the player's perspective.
