Yankee Stadium Area Questions

I am coming to the Yankee game tomorrow (4:10 start against the Blue Jays). I will be taking Metro North in from New Haven. Seats aren't very good (Believe we are in the top row of the stadium) so we will probably just walk around the stadium for the game. My friend will be coming in via subway as he lives in NJ and has to be in Manhattan in the morning.

Any recommendations for bars / restaurants around Yankee Stadium?

Which gate is closest to the Subway / Metro North Stations? Are these separate stations or the same?

We will be going into the stadium once the gates are open to go straight into Monument Park. Then hopefully to the Museum for a little while.

I'm just hoping for a good game. I don't care who wins being a Red Sox fan but don't want a blow-out either.

Stan's is the famous bar near the stadium. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/29/ny...l?pagewanted=1
The Metro North station is not the same as the subway station.

The museum is near Gate 6. This might help http://gonyc.about.com/cs/attractions/p/yankee.htm

Note that on weekends, the gates open 2 hrs. before the game.

Pick a landmark and meet there. The "bat" at the Old Stadium was always the best spot.

With the new Stadium I suggest you meet outside by the Hard Rock cafe. You can easily find it and it's right near where the subway comes out.

The gate next to their puts you in the Stadium on the 1st base side. If you head up the escalator you're at the Yankee Museum.

Not sure what the ticket policy is but could probably have a lot of fun watching the game from the Mohegan Sun deck in Center Field.

BTW, Mohegan Sun deck is a bar and the Hard Rock has an outdoor area and large bar inside.

Not sure what you mean by "walk around the stadium" for the game. They have a strict seating policy and you won;t be allowed into seating areas other than the one you have tickets for. As for standing in the aisles people may complain that you are blocking the view. You can certainly keep walking - but doubt you will want to do that for 5 hours. You can sit in one of the restaurants or bars with a view - but I think you need reservations (don;t have details we only do field seats).

Be aware that security is very strict - you cannot enter with anything larger than a large purse and anything you bring in is subject to search (and probably will be). You are not allowed to bring in any liquor.

The area immediately adjacent to the stadium is safe - as is walking from the subway or metro north.

The larger area includes the Men;s House of Detention and residential areas that can be somewhat gritty.

Oh - and I have been there quite a few times for Yankees/Sox games and it is suggested that you not parade around with obvious Sox paraphernalia - esp in the least expensive seats. (I have seen altercations, not sure who started them, assume fueled by booze- but security is VERY strict (there are plain clothes police, as well as many uniforms and stadium security) and anyone with a problem is escorted out immediately.

The design of the new stadium is such that you can see the field from the concourses. You can get away with standing in one spot for a few minutes, but you can't camp out in the lower sections and just hang.

I really do think you should visit the museum. But, leave extra time as it takes quite awhile to view all the World Series Trophies.
