XMAS IN OAHU HAWAII!!!

We are going to be in Oahu for Xmas this year with our 3 kids. What should we not miss that the kids would love. I remember seeing a parade every Xmas morning the goes right through Waikiki. Does anyone have info on this parade!!?? Also has anyone done a sailing charter with kids to see dolphins/whales/turtles, and what were your experiences. We are also interested in local Xmas events that would interest kids. Any info would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know any particulars about Holiday events, but I recommend visiting Haunama Bay for snorkeling and relaxing. It is so breathtaking there!! It is really shallow water so it is good for all ages and experience levels.

We're in Hawaii over Xmas with kids too and got some advice from this forum a couple of weeks ago. I also found calendars of events at starbulletin.com and gohawaii.com. There's a Christmas event at Restaurant Row with entertainment on the evening of Wed., Dec. 12. Honolulu Advertiser's Jingle Bell Run is Saturday Dec. 15. There's even an ice skating rink in Honolulu - sounds kind of a Christmasy thing to do.
Have fun!

Intriguing Question Dec 4th, 2001 10:41 AM

What does Santa say in Hawaii anyway? Ho Ho Ho or Aloho ho ho?

hi patty,

lucky you!!! it's been a couple of years since i got to spend the holidays in a warm place...

i second M's suggestion of checking the star-bulletin newspaper site, very helpful. if you know where you are staying it might be worth it to contact the hotel for events, sometime in december waikiki hosts a canoe landing by santa claus which is pretty popular with the kids. also, in downtown honolulu, city hall shows christmas exhibits and the lights are beautiful. i love the way the palm trees are wrapped with tiny white lights. you can ride around the city hall block in a horse-drawn cab or just walk around. it can be pretty crowded but a good family outing. there also used to be a trolley ride filled with carolers going around.

i didn't notice too many kids on the whale-watching cruise i was on, it's interesting if there is lots to see, we only saw one whale and a lot of people headed back to the buffet inside. if they like being on the water and feeling the wind whip around them, then that's ok. :) hanauma bay is a MUST for kids.

have a great time!

To see marine life close up, you can also go to Sea Life Park (out past Hanauma Bay), the Aquarium (right in Waikiki) or even the Oceanarium restaurant at the Pacific Beach Hotel.

If your kids are real small, Ala Moana Center has a cute train during the holidays that (I think) goes down the length of the mall. In the evening, they have a musical show called "Santa's Light Parade" that is always fun to watch, and it's free.
