WOW! Never Know What You Might Come Home To!
Did you hear the story about the Georgia woman who came home from a 2-week vacation to find out that somebody else had moved into her house?!! and made themselves at home????? Geesh! The nut had even started to REDECORATE!
For the story, do a google search on "Beverly Valentine". And be careful when you travel! You might come home to unexpected renovations!!! |
Isn't that the television show, "While you were Out"? Maybe she thought she was "Trading Spaces"?
Don't hit me. I'm a mother of young children.... Nancy |
I saw the homeowner interviewed this morning on T.V. The "squatter" had taken the woman's pictures down off the wall, got rid of her clothes and her dishes from the kitchen cabinets, and moved in her own clothes, her own dishes and her own family pictures for the wall!!! Where were the neighbors? Didn't anyone suspect anything? Robyn :)>-
|
I guess she thought she would have squatters rights!

My husband and I came home from our honeymoon (mid December)to find our entire house had been decorated for Christmas while we were gone. Even the tree was up! |
I did that read that this morning and could not believe it! And yes, where were the neighbors? Think it also said she had brought her own washing machine in and went police took her away she said she didn't want the washing machine. To bizzare!!!
|
So what are you saying GoTravel...Did the little elves come in and do that for you? :)
|
Yes, aren't little elves lovely? :-D
Our family and friends came in and decorated the house. We were in Mexico and it was off season (insert really cheap) and we stayed a couple of weeks. In fact, we had so much fun we kept extending our stay. By the time we headed home, we were dreading putting up the tree and decorating. It was a lovely thing for them to do. |
Maybe it was Beverly Valentine.

Something similar happened to me once, although not quite to the same extent of what this woman went thru. I wasn't on vacation, though. I was sleeping in my own bed.
I woke up and realized my hall light was on and knew I hadn't left it on before going to bed. As I crept into the living room, I found a man sitting on my living room sofa making himself at home. He helped himself to the fridge, made out a grocery list, put his own photos in my frames, had candles burning and was listening to my music. Talk about freak me out! :O Of course, what this lady went thru sounds like pure hell in comparison. Jeez! The nerve of some people. |
Statia, was this a long ago ex husband you didn't recognize? Just kigging of course.
What happened than? Were you able to call 911 etc. How horrifying! |
Statia! OMG!! What did you do? What did he say? I would have flipped out!
How long did it take the police to arrive? OMG!! |
Sorry Statia, not kigging, kidding. Think this evil green on this site is getting to me.
|
This happened about ten years ago. Since we don't really have much crime here, the police very simply and calmly told me to "beat him with a stick" when I called them. I don't think that was really an option.
Thank goodness my husband was home and not working nights or I would have been even more freaked out. We finally got him to leave, but not before realizing he had my husband's shoes and shirt on. :) I still see the same guy on the street nearly every day and he's still a certified weirdo. He claims that he came in because the door was unlocked (like that was some sort of invitation or something?). No one here really locks their door anyhow. Of course, after that incident, I do lock mine when I go to bed now. :D |
Whenever my DH is out of town, I run through awful scenarios in my head at night. What would I do if...
But I must say, Statia's situation has never crossed my mind. WHAT DID YOU DO????? Did you have the presence of mind to not scream? I can't even imagine!!! I read of an instance recently where an elderly woman living alone encountered a burglar in her house. Instead of panicking, she talked to him like nothing was wrong and offered him something warm to drink. They talked calmly for awhile, and while he sat on her sofa, she excused herself and called 911. One smart cookie! |
Statia, I thought you were joking when I read your first post. I am shocked that this happened and the police didn't seem to care. I'm glad he was harmless, but it sounds like this guy s/b hospitalized, as he needs help. What's scary is that the next time he does this, it might not turn out so well. I'm glad you're OK.

Wow, what scary stories! When I saw the title I figured it would be something like we came home to today from the weekend...doggie vomit, lol!
I had a friend once though that after moving into a new home, her dh was deployed, and she worked nights as a nurse. Well one of the workers who built their home kept a key! When she was at work, he came in and helped himself to food, etc. She never saw him, but kept wondering about the missing food, dirty dishes in the sink, etc. Finally she thought she was drinking too much and imagining the whole thing. Then one day she was sick and didn't go to work, but stayed in bed. She heard a noise in the kitchen and went out with her shotgun and scared the guy so bad he went running. He never came back, lol! And yes, she had the locks changed:) |
I keep a bat under the bed for those times DH is gone. Swing first, ask questions later is my motto. Unbelievable story Statia!
|
Oh-oh, I'm getting scared now. I'm in New York at the moment, heading home tomorrow. And the cat-sitter practices Wicca. I hope I don't find my cats changed into toadstools, or worse.
|
And my family and friends tease me because I have a gold plated very heavy golf club that had been presented to my DH one time at a golf tournament. Kept that gold club because I thought "hmmmm, this would make a good weapon if ever someone ---- ".
Think now I will start putting it on the floor next to my bed!! I can't even imagine how horrifying it would be to find someone "moved in" during the night. And the PD sure did sound like a whole bundle of help. |
