Would you recommend vrbo.com?

I am considering using vrbo.com to rent a condo in Maui. I would like to hear from people who have used vrbo.com and whether they recommend it, and if so why.
Thanks.

We have used vrbo numerous times and have never had a problem. I'm always careful to search on travel forums and Google for any possible reviews or negative comments and only pick lodging that has lots of photos on the site. Talk to the owner on the phone and ask lots of questions. What might give someone pause is that you usually have to be paid in full before you arrive. But we have never had a problem and the accomodations were at least as depicted or better than on the website.

Agree with Maggi. Do some research ahead - call owner to get a "feel", contact resort to make sure they really own and are free to rent, check with website to see if any problems reported, etc. Having said that, have used them and Cyberrentals several times and have never had a problem. Condos were always as represented and we saved $$. If you are staying for a longer period of time, you can also negtiate price. Wouldn't do it any other way. Good luck.

owner dependant. i have had good luck, one friend had a bad experience but it was also a first time rental season for the owners. they didn't want to deal with my friend and their management company was trying to pull a fast one on the owner. BUT i think that is really not the norm. i've used it several times and have been very satisfied, in hawaii you may not even see the owner. i didn't, just make sure if you are looking at condos there that they say air conditioning, if they don't say it they likely don't have it, you must ask to confirm this. i enjoyed my maui location, big island location, i decided not to stay at my kauaii location because i changed my mind, i only had a one night deposit so i stayed the night and moved on - that's why cash or check is good in this instance. some do take credit cards tho. enjoy. mahalo.
