Would you pick Warwick Hotel or Roosevelt Hotel?

Please help because I cannot decide.

Will be visiting New York next March. Both the Warwick and Roosevelt have a sale. Our main activities owuld be watching some operas.

Warwick is slightly more expensive (~$30 more a night), and it has a better rating (#82) on Tripadvisor.

Roosevelt is cheaper, has nicer photos in its website but has a rating of (~#240) in Tripadvisor.

Can any Fodorites plaese advise or recommend which one please? Thank you.

First off, that number 240 is meaningless. I prefer the vibe of The Roosevelt and the lobby, (stayed there a few years ago, and still drop by on our way to Grand Central Station for an adult beverage. But the Warwick would be closer to Lincoln Center if that is a factor.

I would suggest that you get a few more review sources than just Tripadvisor. Try and get contrasting views. Yelp is one possibility. I always look at the negative reviews on there first. Weed those out if the reviews are too old or by someone with only one review or someone with too many reviews (may be a "professional" reviewer), etc. and try to get at just the handful of real and honest reviews.

You can also just google the hotel name and city and google maps will also have reviews. These are usually too short to be of much use, but if a hotel has too many low ratings on google plus on other websites, then it's probably a dog.

Yahoo also has reviews.

Choose a few other sites that you will trust (trust is an individual matter) and come up with a composite picture that, hopefully, will help you make a final decision.

Good luck!

I don't know either hotel, but the Warwick gets better online reviews across the board (Yelp, Expedia, hotels.com, etc.)

Both are older, very traditional hotels.

The Warwick is much closer to Lincoln Center if you are here for opera. Roosevelt is the middle of a business district - and while fine for budget travelers is less convenient.

IMHO the number ratings on TA mean nothing - since a huge number of reviews come from people on group tours and visitors from outside the US - who often have differnt expectations. You need to look at what people with similar desires say about the hotels.

Between these 2, the Warwick. Have a look on oyster.com. For photos. Why just these 2?
