Would like comments/review of Days Inn/Gateway motel

Has anyone stayed at the Days Inn/Gateway motel? Are there any family restaurants within walking distance? I would appreciate any other recommedations for restaurants near the Mall. Thanks.

YOu're probably unaware that when you choose a state heading for your post it's only useful for those searching for posts field under that heading - the rest of us haven't a clue whatstate or city you're referring to. Repost with the city/state name in the title of your post and you're sure to get helpful advice.

Owen, the Days Inn that she is referring to is in Washington, DC. MJ, How on earth did you end up there? The Days Inn/Gateway is on New York Avenue in an absolutely horrid part of town. In the rare occasions that my husband and I have had to drive by there, we have always wondered about how people ended up there. There are no family restaurants in walking distance except for some fast food places In fact, I wouldn't recommend walking around there after sundown. During the day is questionable. It is not in walking distance to the Mall or any other attraction for that matter. I suggest that you consider other accomodations.

Thank you ilisa!!! Obviously, I am not familiar with the area. I really appreciate your response. The Days Inn web site lists this property with a 5 Sunburst rating. Can you suggest another hotel/motel near a Metro station that is in a safe area? We will be visiting D.C. for only 3 days. Thank you again for your prompt response. MJ

I assume that since you were checking out Days Inn, you want to keep costs down. There is a Days Inn way up Connecticut Avenue near the Van Ness Metro Station. It is not downtown and in walking distance to any of the attractions, but it is an excellent area. The metro ride is quick and efficient. There is a Holiday Inn on New Jersey Avenue that may be a good choice. It is located in walking distance of Union Station with its shops, restaurants and metro station, as well as near the U.S. Capitol. Up the block from my office on Massachusetts Avenue is a Marriott Courtyard that often offers very reasonable rates. Dupont Circle is also a good area to stay. Try the Radisson Barcelo. Hope this information helps.
