Worst areas in Chicago.

I was just wondering, what are the WORST areas in Chicago to live in towards crime. I have never been to Chicago and will be possibly relocating there. Trying to find a place to live. Thanks.

If you are planning on living there, why wouldn't you ask what the BEST areas of Chicago are to live in? Wouldn't that be more efficient? As the person who responded to your other post asked, why don't you tell us your price range, job location, and other factors that would influence neighborhood recommendations.

Alright. My new job location is going to be on W. Carroll Ave. I am new to the Chicago area but I would prefer something within 10 miles of driving. I would like a 2 bedroom apartment somewhere within a few blocks of a park so I can walk my dog. I have a 10 pound Shih Tzu. I don't want to pay any more than $1000 a month before utilities. Have found numerous apartments around the area that match what I need but I dont know what areas are high crime areas. I come from Detroit so I can handle a little crime but I don't want to live in a slum either.

Plug in your address and there you go on stats. I believe it will also work by map/arrow/precinct and/or zip codes (exact).

Do be solidly aware that those who live within high crime areas and neighborhoods, especially if they are "trendy", are sometimes the least able to realistically evaluate their own specific neighborhood. With a heavy emphasis on that word REALISTICALLY.

Good Luck, as many areas are changing for the better. But that doesn't mean they are good either.

Roughly, west and south Chicago have the most crime.

Are you working on the block of Carroll Street that is downtown, or on the rest of Carroll Street, west of Racine? If you are working downtown, you may want to look along the public transportation corridors to find a convenient commute.

If you stay north of downtown and east of the 90-94 expressway, you'll find that most neighborhoods are quite nice, although some are rough but improving.

that South Side of Chicago= Leroy Brown

Not all areas of the Southside of Chicago are dangerous. For instance, Beverly, Asburn, Wrightwood, Mt. Greenwood, several others are not any worse than quite a few Northside locations. And it is complex and ever changing.

Having lived a good portion of my life on the Southside of Chicago and having to be there nearly every weekend taking care of elderly right now and for the last 2 years, I see some good neighborhoods and some bad. They are not all bad- and I think you should see the stats on the website I posted.
