World's Longest Yard Sale

Have any of you ever heard of the "World's Longest Yard Sale" on U.S. Hwy 127 (mostly) that runs from Covington, KY to Gadsden, AL? It is this weekend.

Yes I have heard of it. They did a whole documentary about it on PBS not too long ago. It looked like a complete blast. Made me want to go.

The closest point is just over an hour away. The lower end is probably 2-3 hours away. Would it be worth a wasted day and wasted tank of gas?

If it were me just an hour away, I would do it, but I'm in TX. Bummer. Do a web search and see if you can find out more about it. Or maybe someone out there will give us the inside scoop. Come on out there ... who's been to this thing?

I'm from Louisville. I used to play music in Harrodsburg during the weekend of the sale. (This year they changed the festival) I can tell you that if you're a yard sale affecionado, you will love it. There's an incredible amount of junk out there! My friend came back with a boat motor. tools, furniture and some good homemade edibles! It is this weekend...it's really a lot of fun.

This is the website for it:<BR>http://www.jamestowntn.org/worlds.htm<BR><BR>Supposedly some of the items will be offered in advance on the internet. But I didn't pay attention to that website & it's not mentioned here. I'm not THAT much of a yard sale affecionado. Personally on Saturday mornings I like to sleep in too late to do that effectively. I just thought it might be a neat way to avoid all the stuff I REALLY NEED to be doing tomorrow.

My husband just told me that if I bring ANYTHING home, I have to throw something else away. Hee Hee Hee Hee . . .

linda Aug 16th, 2002 01:19 PM

do it- throw his golf clubs away.

x Aug 16th, 2002 01:21 PM

Hee hee hee. That might work if they hadn't been in the attic for a decade. His dirt bike, however, . . . No. That'd give him the excuse he's been looking for to go buy a brand new KTM 450.

Oh my God.<BR><BR>Can you say "Trailer Parkansas"?<BR>

We went. I'm glad I went. Not that I found much of anything. I guess we spent about $20 total. I was amazed at the number of people! I guess if there was anything really worthwhile, it was probably picked up on Thursday. I did see some china with the stamp "Made in Occupied Japan."<BR><BR>The best part of the afternoon was when we were rained out near Mentone and stopped at a little "general store" for a cone of ice cream.
