Woodstock, NY
My boyfriend and I are looking to make a weekend trip to Woodstock, NY. Any advice from people who have visited, regarding places to stay, things to do, good restaurants, etc?

Thanks.

Woodstock is a really nice area. There are always some intimate concerts going on as well as some interesting art galleries. The small shops are varied, leaning toward a new age sensibility.

Are you looking for small B&B's or are you looking for chain hotels? If you need chain hotels, the nearest would be Kingston (about 8 miles by car) where they have Holiday Inn, Ramada Inn, etc.

You may want to see Opus 40 which is a huge art work sculpted by one man out of a bluestone quarry.

It's wonderful just to drive the roads around Woodstock (especially in the fall with the beautiful leaves). I also recommend driving over to Saugerties, which has many wonderful shops and some great antique shops.

Two websites that may help you are

www.woodstock-ny.com
www.woodstocktimes.com

"new age sensibility".....hmmmm.
Is that an oxymoron?

The next two weeks are going to be spectacular in Woodstock with the fall foliage at peak. (I live about an hour north). Go soon if you can.

YOu'll find it difficult to impossible to find weekend accommodations at a B and B during this month. It's the peak foliage season and they are booked up early. Your best best is to try a chain like Holiday Inn, Courtyard, etc.
