Woodstock, NY

We will be heading to the Woodstock, NY area with a 13 yo and 11 yo this summer for a few days of hiking, biking and exploring. Please share any recommendations for activities, hidden gems and dining in the area. We would be open to driving to other areas within an hour of our lodging. Thank you

We took a self guided tour around the monastery above Woodstock. Pretty impressive.

For an authentic Germany in the Catskills experience, we love lunch or dinner at the Mountain Brauhaus.

There are a couple wellknown ski "resorts" or moutains at least pretty close to there. Nowadays, they have to adapt to summer and offer summer activities, check it out. Hunter is the most wellknown, Windham is smaller.

They don't offer as much as some ski resorts in summer. Most offer some hiking, some mountain biking, ziplining and occasionally something ellse like little cars that go down a track, not sure what to call it (on a hill, like a roller coaster).
These are called mountain or alpine coasters. The closest one is at Jiminy Peak Resort in MA, which is about 1.5 hrs drive from Woodstock.

They do usually offer rides on the ski lift which I think kind of funny in summer as I ride them all the time for skiing. I could see it more in Fall when there are beautiful autumn colors in the trees. I suppose if it gave you some great view I could see it.

Storm King is within your travel limit. The park has outdoor art and is fine for a hike and a picnic.

If you are hiking, I recommend DEET to help prevent tick bites, which may carry Lyme Disease. Widespread incidence of the infection around here.
