Woodley Park Guest House
 

We (me and my sweet mother) have recently decided to toot up to Washington DC during the fall break. I was looking at Woodley Park Guest house and it seems to get very good reviews. Does anyone on here have some experience with this location or place? http://www.dcinns.com/woodley.html
It is very near a metro stop so I do really like that about it. I would appreciate any insight.

I have never been there but have passed it. We often stay at the Marriott near there as we love the zoo. the area is very nice - little cafes, etc. and is near the upscale Adams Morgan ares which is lovely to walk around in.

It's been recommended on here a few times.

Its a great location - very convenient for the metro and a number of decent restaurants in various price ranges (including the wonderful Petits Plats). There is some construction going on near it, but it should be mostly interior work (and so not particularly disruptive) by the fall.

Gosh, I remember when Adams Morgan was considered scary. I should have bought real estate then!

I have personally stayed there 3 times. All in the fall. You will enjoy your stay. One thing I will point out is that there is no elevator. If you have any mobility issues, you may want to request a room on the first floor.

I have stayed in 3 different rooms and all were very comfortable. Although it is a B&B, it is big enough that you do not feel like everyone is watching your every move, and yes I have had this issue in other B&Bs. All of the staff are very friendly and helpful.

I found the location to be the best. Although it seems to be out a ways from the Mall, I found it nice to return to a quiet neighborhood after a day of sighseeing. On 2 visits I was traveling alone and felt very safe returning on the Metro late at night. As mentioned by kja, there are many nice restaurants in the neighborhood and you are only one Metro stop from Dupont Circle if you need more options.

gardendiva (love your name) thanks for the information. I totally understand your comments about the B&B being big enough so to not feel smothered. That information was a big relief for me. We are staying on the first floor so that will not be an issue for us. Thanks again!

willowjane, I stayed in the room with 2 twin beds and private bath on the 1st floor. It is as beautiful as the pictures. I was a bit concerned because it is right off the lobby but we slept in later than others and did not hear any of the noise from the breakfast room.

You will be happy here. You can get rooms that may be a little less expensive but this is worth the extra. Last time I was there I spent 2 nights up the street to save a few dollars. I was disappointed.

In addition to the zoo, you are also closest to the National Cathedral. However, take a cab as it is all uphill.

And just one Metro stop from Cleveland Park, which also has some wonderful restaurant options (e.g., Lavandou, Sorriso). And if you prefer you can walk to either Cleveland Park or Dupont Circle; it's about a mile either way.

If you want to go to Cleveland Park for dinner, I can highly recommend Indique.

This property is great. I have never stayed there but some relatives of mine did and they liked it a lot. It seems to have good rooms and the staff is friendly, I heard. Woodley Park is a great place to stay in DC. It has a metro station and at least 4 bus routes go there. Connecticut Avenue in that zone is particularly great to find a good but not expensive restaurant. And if interested you are just a few blocks away from the Zoo (go check the Pandas). To eat I suggest to try the Lebanese Tavern and the Afgan Grill. Both places offer great dishes for a great price.

Both quality and service have dropped substantially over the last year or so. I no longer go there, nor do I recommend it.

I've lived in DC about 20 years and visited before that, and Adams Morgan wasn't considered scary even back to maybe 1980.
However, I admit I have never, even today, heard of anyone referring to it as "upscale".

I agree with Christina re Adams Morgan over the years. Neither scary nor upscale by DC standards, but trendy. Though the hot nightlife scene has moved south from there to U Street in the past several years.
