Wonderful Town on Broadway

Has anyone heard anything about this play that's about to open in NYC this week -- will be in the City in November and wondered if we should get tickets????

Patrick Nov 2nd, 2003 04:02 PM

I asked about this the other day. One person has reported that it was great, particularly the performance by Donna Murphy (not a surprise there -- she's incredibly talented). HowardR, a real NYC regular has tickets, but I forget when. I know he'll be reporting in.
I'm guessing you can get discount tickets on one of the websites -- Playbill.com or theatremania.com?

Frankly I'd go in a minute. It's a good "old fashioned" musical and a whole lot of fun. I'm assuming or at least hoping it will still be on in April, my next trip up.

First I've heard of this...but I second the "go in a minute" idea. It WAS a wonderful musical the first time around...and surely do for a re-vive.

Sounds like a great show. Have only heard ads for it on the radio, but I am very interested in seeing it. I say go for it, and write up a review for us to read! Have fun.

You've got a love a show with a duet: "why oh why oh why-o. Why did I ever leave Ohio."

We were supposed to see it last weekend, but several performances were cancelled because the star (Donna Murphy) had the flu. She has just returned to the show for the first time last night, I believe.
Anyway, we'll be seeing it November 22, hoping that it's in much better shape than when Jumbo experienced it!

Saw the show today. Donna Murphy was great....beyond great! But, the rest of the show was so-so. Still, it's worth the price of admission just to see her. She's a phenomenal talent.

Oh, Howard. You've ruined my day. How I wish some of these old musicals would work. I'm happy for Donna Murphy, but I had high hopes the rest of the show would live up to it too. I suppose what you're telling me is, it isn't going to be around by mid April when I next get to New York.

It's hard to say, Patrick, as the audience seemed to enjoy it. Oh well, the reviews come out Monday morning.
OK, now back to Hugh Jackson in Oklahoma!

Yes, Howard I'm watching that too, but having played Ali Hakim just about two years ago, I can't help but feel this production is a little slow and overstudied. Hugh Jackman is great, and I love that Aunt Eller, but so much of it is so slow and so deliberate. . .Yawn. Excuse me now, the title song is about to take place.
