Wonderful GWO in Chattanooga!
 

GWO stands for Girls Weekend Out. I will not bore you with details upon details, but I will tell you that I met up with my girlfriends yesterday and today for just an outstanding time in Chattanooga.

The city of Chattanooga is on the Tennessee River and the city planners have done a wonderful job with bringing out the best in this city.

The largest part of our Saturday was spent at the magnificent Bluff View Art District. This area consists of great restaurants, B&B's, and art galleries and shops. We strolled the area in the 73 degree January day!

Lunch was at the Back Inn Cafe, which is a superb mansion on the bluff of the river. Food and service were both excellent. I had a salmon cake sandwich, which isn't a sandwich at all, but salmon cakes sandwiched between fried green tomatoes. This was served with organic greens with a delightful vinegarette dressing and also a sweet red cabbage type of slaw. Others had lobster bisque, salmon, flatbread chicken caesar and meat loaf. We all sampled each others entrees and everyone was happy with their selections.

From there we just strolled around the area and checked out the unique surroundings. My favorite was the River Gallery which has works from artists worldwide.

We walked across the bridge to the North Shore which has more shops and restaurants. The shops and restaurants in this area remind me of my old college days. Lots of tie dyed clothing, incense, jewelery and the like. Tons of people n the open air restaurants and bars enjoying 2 for 1 martinis and bloody marys.

We did not spend the night in the city but went out to The Hamilton Place Mall area and stayed at the I-75 Courtyard by Marriott. The hotel was great.

Dinner on Saturday night was at a family owned Greek restaurant called The Acropolis. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Chattanooga, and my girlfriends all enjoyed it as well.

For Sunday Brunch we went back to the north shore and ate at a place called Food Works. The restaurant is in an old knitting mill. Beautiful job of the restorations and it also adjoins an antique mall. Food and service were also excellent at this restaurant. I had eggs benedict that were atop crab cakes instead of an English muffin and had proscitto instead of canadian bacon. Yummy. Others had seafood omelets and blueberry pancakes.

claire, I lived in Chattanooga for several years and still live in the area (Dalton, GA). They have just really done a magnificent job in the city! We had a grand time.

I'm going to throw out another bone for Food Works. That place simply has wonderful food, great service, and a great atmosphere.

bellman, we almost didn't go to Food Works and I am so glad we did. Everyone loved it! We were going to have brunch at Aretha Frankensteins, but got there and found out it had burned and they were rebuilding.

Anyway, yes do go to Food Works anyone in Chattanooga area.
