Wisconsin- Door County

Years ago, we visited people in Appleton and they told us we must someday visit Door County for many reasons. Now I am thinking of going there, but it is a `14 hour drive. Worth it???

That depends--I hate long car rides, so very little is worth a 14 hour drive to me.

There natural beauty, great hiking, lots of shops. www.doorcounty.com

meribeth, we enjoyed Door County and I would drive 14hr to get there but I would make the trip there and back fun! Stopping halfway at a cool little town with something of interest, etc...

Also, make sure you make the trip in the summer, It's a seasonal place and much is closed in the fall and winter.

Everything remains open in Door County through the Autumn. Make sure you book early around Pumpkin Patch and Fall Festival. Very very busy weekends back to back. In 2013 they are Oct. 11-13 and Oct. 18-20. Don't forget to take in a production at Peninsula Players (www.peninsulaplayers.com) and American Folklore Theatre (www.folkloretheatre.com) when you visit.

Visited Door Cty three years ago. Loved it. We went the last weekend of August. Not as many people around as we expected. Locals said that is a slower week, schools open and many adults wait till after Labor Day . Then gets busy till leaf peeping finishes.

Door county is nice and all - used to go there when lived in Chicago and was not terribly far away. But I personally would not drive 14 hours to get there. And presumably then have to drive 14 hours to get back home.
