Wisconsin dells with 16 year olds

I'm planning on taking three 16 year old boys to the Dells at the end of August for a weekend. Have never been, and need advice on where to stay, what to do. Should I stay at one of the big resorts that seem to have everything, and if so, which ones are best for older kids. Want to make sure they are entertained and make it easy on myself at the same time. Thanks for all your help.

I would advise against staying at one of the big mega resorts for that age group because the indoor water-parks tend to cater more toward the under 12 age group. Just stay at a nice hotel that perhaps has an outdoor pool and go to Noah's Ark one of the days; this will be much more fun for 16 year olds.

I would stay at a place on Wisconsin Dells Parkway (also known as Hwy 12E). Atlantis comes to mind but there are several. This would put your teenagers in walking distance of the big water parks, big go cart places and more. The mega resorts...at least the newer ones are on the outter edges of the action.

I do not recommend letting your 16 year old take the car and wander around the Dells. Traffic is a nightmare and most people are gawking or do not know where they are going or both. There are lots of stop for pedestrian crosswalks in the middle of a block and walkers just walk, believing you see them and will stop. Not a place for a newer driver...I know...I have 2 teenagers.

thanks, I've decided to take your advice and have booked at the Luna Motel which is across the street from Noahs Ark. Other than Noahs Ark, what else would you recommend for l6 year olds. Are the ducks too tame? They do enjoy nature. How about at night? Anything to do with them? Any suggestions for good restaurants for boys with BIG appetities? Planning on bringing lots of snacks with us but these boys can eat. Thanks for all the help.

The Ducks are a must do IMO, not lame at all. On that strip you are staying on is Big Chief go-carts. Boys of all ages (even this 45 year old and his teenagers) love this place. As far as big appetites, there are 2 all you can eat places that I can think of immediately: Paul Bunyans and Black Barts. Both are close, but not walking distance, from your location. I think the Tommy Bartlett water show is a lot of fun for all ages and a Dells tradition.

Have fun!
