Wisconsin Dells in March, anything for a young couple to do?

My anniversary is March 15 and I'm thinking of taking my wife away that weekend. I was looking at Wisconsin Dells as it is very close (we live in Chicago) In particular there is a very nice romantic Bed and Breakfast called White rose with whirlpools in the rooms. Not sure if it as nice as it looks, anyone been there?

What is there to do this time of year in the Dells? I realize that weekend will be St. Patrick's Day, is there anywhere there to celebrate? All help is appreciated!

I think you're going to find it pretty quiet. There are a number of large resorts with large indoor water parks catering to families who, like most of us, are suffering from winter blues. They are mostly in the neighboring Lake Delton area. Other than that, most tours and attractions will not be open. The Dells proper will resemble most other rural Wisconsin small towns which means there are numerous small bars where I'm sure you'll find green beer. You might reconsider and think about Madison. State street on St. Pats day will be very lively assuming your young enough at heart to appreciate the mostly college age crowd. There's quite a bit to see and do in Madison any time of year so not a bad escape from Chicago and about 1 hour closer to you.

I found the Dells area to be unbelievably cheesy (bad pun, I know, but appropriate), very touristy and about as much the opposite of romantic that I could imagine. Was summertime, of course.
If you want something nice and romantic how about the American Club in Kohler? Ever heard of it? The only 5 star resort in the midwest. Room ratings the same as the Ritz-Carlton in Chicago (and I've stayed at both...very different style at the AC, more 'relaxed', but very nice).

My advice for a romantic get-away? Skip the Dells... really. Go to southwest Michigan, New Buffalo/Union Pier area is my favorite... but almost anywhere along the coast is great! Plus it'll be a lot shorter drive than a boring trrek through Wisconsin farm country!

I agree. We had a family reunion at Wisconsin Dells one summer and I thought it was pretty awful. Very cheesy. Lots of water parks and putt-putt golf and bad buffet restaurants. It is the last place I would choose to go for romance. Sorry.

Have you thought about the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa in Lake Geneva. We live in Chicago and have gone there. Indoor pool, spa treatments, fantastic restaurants and huge rooms. We have also been to the American Club and that is top notch as well, more quiet and sophisticated but beutiful. As for the Dells, the above posters are pretty much on target.
