Winter Vacation

We are looking to take a vacation in early February. We would like to stay within the continental United States. Is south Florida about the only choice?

What are you looking for as far as activities, etc? I am in central Florida. The weather is usually beautiful then, but can be cool too.

Mainly just a place to get away from the cold. As far as activities go, we have a pretty wide range of interest and can probably make do with wherever we decide to go. I know that Miami holds a wide range of interest (We love South Beach), and Key West is always a fun place to visit, but we were wondering if there might be somewhere else out there that we are missing.

Florida is extremely varied in feeling. We are "New England With Palm Trees" here. Other areas are very historic, there are lots of state parks with canoeing and hiking, many museums and that type of thing. It really depends on what your desires are.

Southern CA (San Diego, Palm Springs etc) are pretty pleasant in Feb, as is Arizona (Tucson, Phoenix areas).

Go to San Antonio and see the Alamo and do some river walking.
