Winter romance in the Adirondacks
Hi. My husband and I were thinking of taking a long weekend road trip up to the Adirondacks this February to take in a bit of the beauty that winter there has to offer. We are most interested in small, quaint, romantic areas of this region and would appreciate recommendations for lodging. Any help is much appreciated!

You can probably find something nice in the laske placid area.

I have heard very good things about the Friends Lake Inn. I can't remember the town it's in, but it's not as far north as Lake Placid. They are supposed to have a great restaurant. Depending on your budget, I recommend the Lake Placid Lodge. I have not stayed there but stopped in one day and asked for a tour. Rooms are gorgeous. It looks very romantic, no children allowed. The Mirror Lake Inn in Lake Placid is also very nice although it is much bigger than the other two places. They have a beautiful spa and indoor pool.

I've stayed at Lake Placid Lodge and can highly recommend it for what you're seeking. It's not cheap, but fits your criteria well for winter romance. Their website is very informative (not sure, but I think it's www.lakeplacidlodge.com).
Mirror Lake Inn is also highly rated and I've seen some pictures of rooms there which look similar to LPL's. If rates were cheaper there I'd probably give that a try.

I second the vote for the Mirror Lake Inn. Lots to do in Lake Placid. Another suggestion would be the Sagamore in Bolton Landing on Lake George.

Friends Lake Inn is in Chestertown -- maybe 1/2 hour from Lake George. Haven't stayed there, but the restaurant is excellent.
