Winter Resort in Central PA - Recommendations?
Planning a family get together for Christmas 2011 (actually - the week after Christmas). Family located in Ohio, Massachuttes, and Virginia, so cental PA seemed like a good meeting spot.
I am looking for a nice (but not too expensive) resort with a decent amount of outdoor options and kids activites. Skiing is optional (no one in the family is big into it). Any suggestionds would be appreciated. |
How about Seven Springs? That might be slightly west of central PA. Lots to see & do. There are ski runs, mountain activities, kids's game rooms at the lodge. I believe they also have condos and/or cabins with partial kitchen facilities. The lodge is 3 star and fairly priced. If you want deluxe - check out Nemacolin not too far away. For the grownups, there is Frank Lloyd Wright houses in the area (Fallingwater and Kentucky Knob), a pre-Revolutionary war battlefild. It is located conveniently close to the Turnpike. I believe if you google Laurel Mountain Highlands, you can see more info. We went in summer and did white water rafting and hiking.

Sounds perfect - thanks.

If you are looking for something closer to the center of PA, check out Tussey Mountain which is less than 10 miles south of State College, PA. If you don't like the skiing there is a great tubing hill with its own lift.
State College has good hotels in several price ranges. |
