Winery recommendations for Willamette Valley, OR?
Going there soon. Any favorite wineries in that valley or do you love them all?
|
There are a lot of good ones here:) The usual tourist ones, right off of hwy99w, are open most days. But many of the others are by appt only, or on the special weekends (Memorial Day weekend and Thanksgiving weekend). Don't let the appt only thing deter you though.
Some of my favorites include Amity, Argyle, Erath, Brick House (from beachbums recommendation), Chehalem, Domaine Drouhin and Arbor Brook. Rex Hill is right across from Chehalem and has some really good reserves, as well as great views from the winery. There are some big name wineries that you will see the blue tourist signs for, and those are fine for an introduction to the area. But since you will be living up here, be sure to venture off of HWY 99W when you get a chance. |
and if you come farther south in the Eugene area - there is King Estate which is beautiful - they also have a restaurant which I hear is excellent.
Haven't been myself but friend last week went to Iris Hill ( close to King Estate) and were very impressed with the location and the wines |
sunbum--I saw the Sunset article on King Estate and the dining. Someone on TA posted about it, but they did a ton of tasting, so not sure how much they tasted the food.

a friend of mine had dinner at King Estate recently and thought the food was great - and very expensive. Its also open for lunch - and the setting is just outstanding!!

Sunbum--Good to hear:) Yeah, the location is nice.

Sounds great. I will check it out.
A neighbor who just moved up to Eugene also likes Sweet Cheeks. On Friday nights they have music and wine/cheese pairings from 6 to 9. Do the wineries have many events in the winter months? Or mostly summer? Or all the time... |
