Wineries-Monterey to Cambria
 

We are going to be traveling from Monterey to Cambria (we are spending a few nights at each location) & were wondering if there were any wineries in that area that people would recommend. We have been to Napa & loved it so wanted to try to check out one or two. Unlike that trip this will not be our main focus, but if there were a couple in the area that people enjoy we were going to try to squeeze them in.

I tried searching the boards but didn't come up with anything. Sorry if people have already asked this question. Thanks so much for the advice!!

There are a few in the Carmel Valley area, - Chateau Julien, Bernardus, Silvestri Vineyards and Talbott Vineyards Tasting Room there be others, but these are the only one's I've visited. but otherwise, if you take Highway 1 south, I don't recall any. Lots of them between Cambria and Paso Robles. Just take Highway 46 east and once you get to the east side of the coast range mountains, take your choice.

Turley, Denner,& Linne Calodo are a couple of my favorites. If you're looking for a popular tourist one, try Tobin James. Justin also draws a big crowd.

There are two main tasting regions for Monterey County. One is Carmel Valley, while the other is the Salinas Valley. In Carmel Valley, I would recommend Talbott (top shelf chardonays), Parsonage (Merlot and Syrah), Bernardus (Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir), and Bookenoogen (Pinot Noir and Chardonnay). In Salinas Valley, Marilyn Remark (Rhone varietals), Pessagno (top shelf chardonnay, pinot noir, syrah, zinfandel, port), Manzoni (pinot noir, chardonnay), and Paraiso (chardonnay, pinot noir syrah-excellent values)...these are in the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA. On the east side of the valley is Chalone-a bit fo a drive up near the Pinnacles, but excellent wines are well. This is amuch more rugged, rural area than anything you will find in Napa Valley...larger vineyards, and tasting rooms far less dense-rarely a sardine-packed tasting room like you find in Napa

We love Chateau Julien and Bernardus in Carmel Valley. If you go to Monterey, check out Ventana Vineyards, it is a tasting room adjacent to Tarpey's Roadhouse, a very nice place for a meal in the Monterey area. ***kim*** ((#))
