Wineries in either Sonoma or Napa
I've heard on one that has a fantastic cave tour - but need the name.
Also, which castle like wineries have the best tours? Thanks so much for your input! |
Kunde has a cave tour that we went on - pretty fun. Can' say we saw many 'castle-like' wineries but did really like Ferrari (gorgeous italian villa like atomostphere with gardens), Coppola (museum upstairs and also Italian villa type), Duckhorn and Cakebread for their simple beauty, excellent tasting rooms and good wine!

Ledson in Sonoma is a "castle". I didn't tour there, but we were lucky enough to score a private tasting with a winemaker which I'll never forget! Very cool place, good wines, too. Hess feels like a castle- it's in lower part of Napa Valley and a bit out of the way, but worth the trip for the unbelievably cool art gallery. Chateau Montelena is probably the coolest castle tour and has awesome grounds. Check out their web site for tour/tasting options:

The entire Schramsberg (champagne/sparkling wine) tour takes place in their underground caves. Fantastic!

Cave tours: In Dry Creek Area of sonoma we went to a winery very close to Ferrari/Carano called Bella winery. Their tasting room is in a cool cave and the wines are great. I have to mention another winery just before Ferrari/Carano called Dutcher Crossing. Excellent wines and the NICEST people we met the entire trip!
